This album appeals to my varied taste in an almost soul-searching way.

"detroit rock city" is in its own right a great rock track, as is the majority of this album. many of the songs here are still performed live some 35 years later...which is a testament to the strength of the album. the album also features Gene Simmons signature tune "god of thunder", which like "detroit rock city" has been performed at every Kiss show since its release, all in all a fine rock album from a band at the top of their game. Cro-magnon riffage, topped by Nik Turner's squalling Sax, and swooping, swirling, & echoing keyboards is punctuated by Robert Calvert's dystopian futuristic poetry. There are songs in here somewhere, but the attractions for me are the elongated narcotic space-jams that they used to do so well. BTW the bass player here is one Ian Kilminster - now of Motorhead - who kept screamin' at Music Head even though he didn't do nuthin'... Completely brilliant. AllMusic 4+/5 stars.
