^ And when you do retype it, it's never quite the same...

I'm never sure if the original or the retype is better.

Fifth and final album from the group, after studio fights while recording this one. Reported that Sting and Copeland actually came to blows. But the album sure turned out good. This was the groups first #1 album in the states, but those people with the funny accents across the pond and down under had already made the previous 3 albums #1. Four singles from here of which Every Breath You Take performed the best at #1. Great song but my favorite is Synchronicity II. Two other great ones for me with King Of Pain and O My God. Only thing I don't like is that stupid Mother thing by Summers. That's just annoying. This album came out as I was coming out of my self-imposed hiatus from music listening. Seems like this may have been my first purchase in about 2 years, while I was waiting for disco to die a slow painful death. I outlasted it. That was my goal in life at the time. Now if I can only outlast dance/techno and death/doom metal my life will be complete.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Mother

Best Track - Synchronicity II

Another suburban family morning
Grandmother screaming at the wall
We have to shout above the din of our Rice Crispies
We can't hear anything at all
Mother chants her litany of boredom and frustration
But we know all her suicides are fake
Daddy only stares into the distance
There's only so.much heartache he can take
Many miles away
Something crawls from the slime
At the bottom of a dark Scottish lake

Another industrial ugly morning
The factory belches filth into the sky
He walks unhindered through the picket lines today
He doesn't think to wonder why
The secretaries pout and preen like
cheap tarts in a red light street
But all he ever thinks to do is watch
And every single meeting with his so-called superior
Is a humiliating kick in the crotch
Many miles away
Something crawls to the surface
Of a dark Scottish loch

Another working day has ended
Only the rush hour hell to face
Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes
Contestants in a suicidal race
Daddy grips the wheel and stares alone into the distance
He knows that something somewhere has to break
He sees the family home now looming in his headlights
The pain upstairs that makes his eyeballs ache
Many miles away
There's a shadow on the door
Of a cottage on the shore
Of a dark Scottish lake
Many miles away, many miles away

MH you are hilarious - you should write a novel or something. Agree with all your points about the tracks on this album. Mother was crap. I can't believe a producer actually allowed this on the album. He should have been shot. Track 9 was really good as well.

TV ON THE RADIO - NINE TYPES OF LIGHT (2011)

I can't review albums the way you guys do...such an excellent job!

However I will say that TV on the Radio's Nine Types of Light is a keeper ! I am almost certain that it was recommended by one of you kind gents earlier as it was only released on 11 April of this year.

Their style is hard to pin down...their wiki says indie rock, art rock, funk. This unique and entertaining
quintet from Brooklyn, N.Y. started in 2001 with release of OK Calculator (reference to Radiohead's OK Computer ?). I think the reason I like this so much is because it reminds me of the Bowie albums before Young Americans, Let's Dance, etc. and the Velvet Underground (Lou Reed in particular). The merging of the two makes for a very light entertaining retro album. The music is basic and primal but it still holds your interest throughout.

Their associated acts include Celebration, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jane's Addiction, Maximum Balloon, Rain Machine and yes babebalicious actress Scarlett Johannson (one CD - 2008 - Bowie wrote 2 songs for her...common thread here?). If you listen to this retro late sixties/early seventies sounding album then maybe you could steer me in the direction of artists that you think are similar. Sometimes the similar artist thing is incorrect IMO and doesn't work.
