ALEX LLOYD "amazing:the best of" 2006, cd.

Alex has been making records since the late 1990's with "Mother hubbord" but went solo in 2000, after four very good studio albums he finally put out this "best of" package in 2006.
his music is highly emotive, sort of a cross between pop, indi and alternative with lovely melodies and radio friendly much in the same vein as Coldplay, but less pompus with the music.
his vocals are very good, not strong but he has the ability to hold a note and maintian composure whilst doing so thanks to his youth spent in a choir.
this is one of the multitude of Aussie albums i have also chosen to add to MH's collection in a few days:

1993 debut album.

Probably their worst release. There isn't much here to differentiate them from countless other Brit guitar bands during the early '90s, but there are a few glimpses of the breathtaking genius that would characterise the string of albums starting with The Bends, that would lead them close to world domination...

The angst anthem that is Creep is a case in point. Still gives me the shivers when I hear it.

In common with almost all of their albums, my fondness for this one grows with each listening.

AllMusic 3/5 stars.

On the laptop.

1990 release from Howard Devoto (from Magazine), and Norman Fisher-Jones.

Devoto's vocals mean that this album has a definite Magazine feel about it, yet Fisher-Jones' music is more electronic than Magazine ever quite attained.

I'm a sucker for Devoto's work, so this is a definite Buy Lister. Unfortunately, the CD is currently unavailable. Good job I'm patient !!

i-Pod listening in the garden this PM.

2002 release from US eclecticist.

This album consists of gentle Alt-Rock with phasers set midway between "shimmer", & "smoulder" ("shoulder" ??).

High quality song-writing, and a great deal of attention applied to the musical ornamentation from string sections, to guitar parts, to synth textures.

Very good album.

Wouldn't you know I would get an Aussie band pushed on me by the Aussie. Turns out to be a good thing. Claimin CSN and Wilco influences this bands debut album scores good for me. Composed of two former bandmembers of Australian groups Jebadiah and Eskimo Joe + 3 other lads. Top 10 album down under, certified by CRAZY-HORSE himself. Realy love 2 songs on here, Bus Stop and Reasons. Only one bad track, you guessed it, the instrumental one. Rest were all good songs. Lead off single was Waiting For You followed by Not The One. No chart information on those. Only 4 clips availabe but that does include my favorite track on the album which has a featured vocalist of Julia Stone of Angus and Julia fame.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM
