What Are You Listening To?
Thanks for this album post, Tiggi ! I listened to Mojave 3 late last night and it certainly fits into my late night low volume soft music list ! Two angelic voices floating in space ! Very soothing vocals and music ! Great choice, thanks !

Their debut album, from 1996.

This band have been on the radar for what seems like an eternity, and I've finally got round to checking them out. Glad I have...

Neil Halstead, & Rachel Goswell previously played with cult UK Indie band Slowdive, but this is a significant departure from their earlier work.

When Goswell sings solo, there's an uncanny resemblance to Cowboy Junkies' Margo Timmins, and the music is a pretty good match also. Woozy Alt-Coutry that's very relaxing without being soporific.

Fine Album.

Tenth album, released in 1995.

I've waited what seems like forever to get my hands on a copy of this. It's been deleted for years, and this is a re-release to celebrate the band's 25th anniversary.

If you ever wondered what a Lou Reed Alt-Country album, with occasional assistance from Crazy Horse in all their ragged glory would sound like, this album will go some way toward providing an answer. Howe Gelb's voice has a remarkably similar timbre to LR's, although his lyrics don't have quite as much sleaze about them...

A great album.

Roxy's fifth and one of the best. Four top rated tracks out of nine and nothing bad. Single of Love Is The Drug which shows no charting in the U.S. but a #2 in the U.K. Roxy was much bigger across the pond. That single plus Sentimental Fool, Just Another High and my fav of Both Ends Burning are all best for me. The album has a #371 ranking on RS's greatest of all time and a #50 peak on Billboard. This album would be the last of Roxy's greats for me and I was glad to see Brian Ferry pursue that solo career after the follow up.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Whirlwind

Best Track - Both Ends Burning

Please don't ever let me down
'Cause you know I'm not so sure
Do I have the speed to carry on
Burn you out of my mind, I know
You're a flame that never fades
Jungle red's a deadly shade
Both ends burning, will the fires keep
Somewhere deep in my soul tonight
Both ends burning
Burning
Burn
Now my course is plain as day
Running bold across to play
Both ends burning with a strange desire
That feeds the fire in my soul tonight
I will dance the night away
Living only for today
Both ends burning while you're counting sheep
Hell-- who can sleep in this heat this night?
Tell me will I ever learn?
It's too late, the rush is on
Both ends burning and I can't control
The fires raging in my soul tonight
Oh will it never end?
Put your foot around the bend
Drive me crazy to an early grave
Tell me what is there to save tonight
Both ends burning
Burning
Burn
Keep on burning till the end, until the end
Keep on burning till the end, the very end

i-Pod listening in the garden yesterday PM.

1996 album from the band which were foremost amongst the Grateful Dead's acolytes.

Phish followed the Dead's approach by developing a unique relationship with their audience based around the live arena, including extended improvisational workouts, an extensive set of live releases, and welcoming audience taping of their shows.

This is a good studio album, with varied material, most of which is highly melodic, and hangs together very nicely.

On the laptop.

UK band's debut, from 2011.

Tipped off regarding this one by SteveO as a potential Jesus & Mary Chain-a-like. The guitar noise is quite JAMCish, but this is more Dinosaur Jr to these ears.

Can't say that this is an album I'd take to. It's OK, but not one for the Buy List.

Thanks for the heads up anyway, Steve.

PATTI SMITH "horses" 1975.....from the Music Head library.

another of the MH albums i listened to whilst in his company, again i mostly picked albums that i hadnt heard, i mean whats the point of having over 3000 albums to choose from only to hear the same music i can listen to at home???

i had previously read how great Patti is/was, and this album always seems to crop up in those "best albums ever" lists etc....and she is highly regarded as pre-punk poet and occasionally draws comparrisons with the great Bob Dylan. unfortunately hyped up artists rarely live up to my expectations but this album is an exception, it is very good and rated a solid 2.0 on a first listen to my ears....and again, its on my purchase list(damn you MH!,you're cost me not only a vacation but also a list of material to purchase!!!). i guess my favourite track here was the first song "gloria" which contains bits of Van The Man's Gloria....guess if it was recorded nowadays it would be called sampling! the worst track for me here was the final track "elegie" which came in at a borderline like/dislike, Music Head rated this album a 2.6 with tracks 1,3,5,6,7 recieving the full *** and the remainder tracks recieving **.
