What Are You Listening To?
David Bowie - Low. A mediocre album. Some interesting sounds but the material is basically lacking something. It all sounds very uninspired to me. The band just seem to be plodding on.

The Meaning of I (2011)

VOYAGER have for a long time, been close to my favorite Aussie prog band, but now with the release of the simply stunning THE MEANING OF I they have gone straight to number one. This is one of the best and most unique progressive metal albums I've heard in a long time and deserves to be right up in the top area of this list.

thank you SteveO

After hearing this Aussie bands debut last week, I was expecting more from this. That first one was covers, which I'm never big on. Figured this one, being original material, had to come out better. If not for the 3 instrumentals and the one duplicate live track, it would have received a passing grade. That sunk it. This is the groups third album. It came out no better than the debut. Single of Country Girl was bad. And I'm not using that double speak stuff, where bad means good. Only cover here that I know of is Let The Four Winds Blow (Fats Domino) which is credible. Best is probably the leadoff of Have It Your Own Sweet Way. I love the squeezebox that is prominent in the bands work and vocalist Joe Camilleri delivers in the Costello style, but bottom line is just weak material. No youtube clips available for this album.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - All You Need

Best Track - Have It Your Own Sweet Way

You can love me
Take me down
Walk all over me
You can leave me
Wake this town
Or bow out gracefully
Say what it is when it has to be
Have it your own sweet way
Break all the rules that I must obey
Have it your own sweet way
Tell this poor fool if it’s night or day
You can tease me
Make a time
I’ll suffer for your crime
You can cheat me
Tell those lies
Or take me by surprise
Step out the door in your best disguise
Keepin’ me tied to the spot
Bringin’ me down with one shot
Cuttin’ me loose on the sea
Tell me it’s liberty
Say what is is when it has to be

Holiday i-Pod listening.

New light through old windows, McCartney vanity project, a restoration minus over-bearing production, or mutilation of something sacred ???

For me it's a bit of all of the above, but still a worthwhile listen.

Holiday i-Pod listening.

One of three more challenging albums that went with me to Turkey.

I'm slowly getting more familiar with this one, and it's paying rewards.

Holiday i-Pod listening.

The turning point where the band started to play more Rootsy music. Don't have many of their studio albums, so this made a change from their customary live albums. A bit Deja Vu, and a bit like The Band's first couple.

Sixth album, with the hit Short People. Couldn't believe that was a hit. Not a bad song, just so dumb. Yes I know it wasn't meant to be taken literaly. Randy did take some heat from the vertically challenged, which probably resulted in pushing the song to #2 and the album to #9, his best selling ever. Members of the Eagles were on most of these tracks, Walsh, Schmit, Frey, Henley, also JD Souther and Ry Cooder. My favortie of Rider In The Rain sounds like something off of Desperado. Missing those great Eagle harmonies on the clip. Two other top ranked tracks with Baltimore and the Sigmund Freud number, which was written for the movie Ragtime, then not used. Nothing bad on here, making this a just miss love album. Not Randy's best album, but a good one.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Old Man On The Farm

Best Track - Rider In The Rain

Got a gun in my holster
Got a horse between my knees
And I'm goin' to Arizona
Pardon me, boys, if you please

I have been a desperado
Raped and pillaged 'cross the plain
Now, I'm goin' to Arizona
Just a Rider In The Rain

He's a Rider In The Rain
He's a Rider In The Rain
And I'm goin' to Arizona
He's a Rider In The Rain

Oh, my mother's in St. Louis
And my bride's in Tennessee
So, I'm goin' to Arizona
With a banjo on my knee

He's a Rider In The Rain
He's a Rider In The Rain
And I'm goin' to Arizona
He's a Rider In The Rain

Used to work in Uncle's feed store
While he was fightin' in the war
Now I'm goin' to Arizona
Ain't gonna work for him no more

I'm the son of the prairie
And the wind that sweeps the plain
So, I'm goin' to Arizona
Just a Rider In The Rain

He's a Rider In The Rain
He's a Rider In The Rain
And I'm goin' to Arizona
He's a Rider In The Rain

He's a Rider In The Rain
He's a Rider In The Rain
And I'm goin' to Arizona
Just a Rider In The Rain
