anyways, Low-David Bowie

Bowie's glam period is pretty hit or miss for me. He could be pretty exciting, but pretty bland as well. This, though, this is where it's at. An incredibly exciting and wholly original album, this is why we remember Bowie as a genius

You hit the nail on the head, Crazy ! I call all the groups with seven or eight genres attached to them...simply ROCK as is the case with The Foo Fighters. Looks like another one to delve into ! I simply love their live at Wembley album... Skin and Bones but shunned them for awhile especially after their poor covers album this year - Medium Rare but this one - Wasting Light will redeem themselves !!!!

FOO FIGHTERS "wasting light" cd,2011.

yeh, yeh!, i know what youre all thinking.."these guys are alternative"....."bollocks!"...they are a rock band, "alternative" is just a lame excuse to pigeonhole artists who dont quite fit into other genres, and this may be true for Fooies...as they seem to cover hard rock, grunge, punk and straight rock all one one album, most of the time...anyway im taking a stand against "alternative"...i put REM here the other day as they would have been called a rock band before that name "alternative" was invented!

ok, enough of my rantings about genres and on with the album....

firstly of their seven studio albums, a live set and a best of set, i have four studio albums, the live and the best of set, that makes six of nine releases in my collection, thus i feel justifed and qualified to suggest that "wasting light" is their second best album(behind 1997s 'the colour and the shape').
this is a classy affair of good solid rock/heavy rock music from the get-go to the final ending of the final track...it is a blistering assault on the ears, but it has rythm, feel and melody, unfortunately there is one so-so track on here, that being the lead off single "white limo", which is their heaviest track they have ever recorded...and it does nothing for me...good video for it though in which Motorhead's Lemmy is driving round in a limosine...why they picked him to do it i dont know...dont even think he played on the track????
this album reached number one on the US/UK/CAN & Aust charts back in april or may of this year and justified IMO!

a worthy album by one of rock's finest bands over the last 20yrs, both live and in the studio!...all links bar one are live from a Letterman show...was it a special Foo Fighters show???

I LOVE THIS ALBUM!

UNCUT MAGAZINE "songs of the south-various artists" 2010/11 cd

ok, cant find a decent picture of the cover so i had to use my phone for this one..
this was a free cd that i got with uncut magazine at the beginning of the year....not a fan of compilation albums but when they come free with magazines, im up for it!
its was a collection of tracks by new/emerging US artists from "the south", some southern rock, some country/folk, some country here also.
i just find some of these cds that come with music magazines give access to bands that might not get on the radar otherwise, several very good songs on here from the Hank III sounding Hans Chew, to the Secret Sisters(with jack white) doing a brilliant version of john Cash's "big river" in a very Whits stripes way!
Elizabeth Cook is another one i think i might have to check out properly at some time...lovely vocals, very traditional country.
Rich Hopkins one is lengthy at nine minutes plus...but it builds up to an almost NY/CH type song

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

love compilations like these, when I can hear someone I haven't heard before
only have heard 3 of these, Surfer Blood, Drive-By Truckers, Black Crowes.

...and at least they generally only put on their best tracks....

i had only heard of Black Crowes and Drive-by Truckers prior to owning this....both are reasonable bands IMO.

i usually only get the "uncut" magazine when there is an interesting cd that accompanies it or a decent interview inside....probably three times a year max!
