Todd my man, what have you done? In your quest to build the ultimate cult following you have alienated your
followers. Sometimes ego is just a dirty word. This album is just what it is titled. An attempt to make music with
no instruments. All sounds are created with Todds voice, with a little help from technology of course. His 11th
solo album, which his then label of Bearsville refused to release and shortly thereafter filed for bankruptcy.
Guess they figured, if this is the best we can do. When Todd was signed by Warner, they were reluctant to release
it also, but bootleg copies had hit the street, so why not? In fairness there are some ok songs here, which I think would
be better than ok with some instruments. Some of them do put you in awe, wondering how he did that sound. I'll give
him that credit. But then just because you can create a sound, doesn't make it a good sound. Once the awe fades
away, so does any apreciation. Favorite track of Something To Fall Back On, you could swear there has to be instruments
in there, but they say no. The album made #128 on the chart. Then it was back to serious music.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Miracle In The Bazaar

Best Track - Something To Fall Back On

If I gave you just a bit more time
Do you think that you would make up your mind?
You can't expect that a flower will grow
Until you get around to giving it more

Like it's only
Something to fall back on
Something to fall back on
Something to fall back on

Like a crumpled dollar hidden in your hat
For the subway home when there's no welcome mat
You'd be left with nothing if it weren't for that
When you need to find it it's right behind you

Remember when you were the talk of the town
And you didn't care if I was around
But still you kept me in the back of your head
Just like the teddy bear that you took to bed

I was only something to fall back on

And to wake up lonely is your deepest dread
So you stay connected by a tiny thread
Though you'd rather try for something else instead
When you need to find me, I'm right behind you

I know I'm only
Something to fall back on

I don't know what makes me think I've the right
To tell you what is most important in life
But after all I guess I just don't care
And if you need me I will always be there

'Cause when I just imagine how it will be
Then I guess it's something to fall back on
Something to fall back on for me

I need to know, you'll need me sometime
Everybody needs somebody to fall back on
Fall back on me

Nobody's going nowhere
You can call me anytime
You can fall back on me
You can call on me
I'm waiting on you, babe

When your world is falling down
And there's no one else around
And you're sitting, waiting by the phone
You can call me and I won't leave you alone

Very good album from an even greater artist !!!! I also have a live version of the NY album where he talks to the audience and the audience responds back...recorded in 1989 in Montreal-St.Denis concert hall ...very good recording as he does some of his "hits" also ...Walk on the Wild Side,etc...

I can honestly say that I have never heard a bad album by him from Velvet Underground to Hudson River Wind Meditations ! I have his latest collaboration Lulu in my to "listen to" list !...and I luv the Berlin album !!!!!

One-off side project from The Cure's Robert Smith, & Banshees bassist Steve Severin, with vocals from Jeanette Landray. Released in 1983.

Given that Smith & Severin are distinctive sounding players, it comes as no surprise that this sounds like an amalgam of the parent bands, with the balance slightly on the side of The Cure. This is also a more synthy album than either band had released up to that point.

Somehow the material falls a bit short of what you might expect.

Decentish album, but hardly essential...

AllMusic 3/5 stars.

Bad as Me-Tom Waits

Wait's new album. Pretty great, as to be expected from an artist of his caliber. I don't think I've heard any of his sigature rusty drum sounds here, but otherwise he's doing his usual stuff

A gift from a mate. Only familiar with theNew Zealand brothers work with Crowded House and Split Enz, and even that
is sparse. This is their first album as a duo. A couple of really nice ones here for me, with a couple I couldn't
get into also to round it out. They started writing together around 1989 fora duo album, then decided that work
would be released as Crowded House. Wasn't until 1994 that the collaboration was resumed and this was released. The
album never charted in the states, but reached #15 in the U.K. Angels Heap and Suffer Never were released as
singles. Not sure what that cover represents, but to me it's a sperm gets the egg kinda thing. Wonder which one got there first.
Now I gotta look and see how my brother felt about the album. Something tells me he said he loves it.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Kiss The Road Of Rarotonga

Best Track - Last Day Of June

the firelight plays on me
the choir ignites behind me
the rising voice of discontent
all the guardian angels
you can bang the drum
look what we've become
i hope there might be one of us
who calls the tune
last day of june
the so called third dimension
hardly deserves a mention
the first and second stages
have been confused for ages
knowledge has been lost
how much does it cost
i hope there might be one of us
who calls the tune
last of june
who breaks the news
last day of june
the city draws it's breath in
i can almost hear it thinking
there are people within my walls
see their wild disorder
driving their machines
swarming like a million bees
i hope there might be one of us
who calls the tune
last day of june
who speaks the truth
last day of june
who breaks the news
last day of june

2.0 on a first listen it pretty good MH...pretty sure this album took a while for me to appreciate fully,so you did ok mate!
i would have been surprised if "Last Day Of June" wasnt your favourite track...why the hell it wasnt released as a single, i'll never know!?!
the two you disliked...i initially didnt like them neither, i guess time and understanding of Neil and Tim's lives helps....

neverhteless...great review MH...pretty sure you'll like their other duo album a bit better...more conventional songs than a few of these ones..

forgot the score now...

think its around 8-10 likes, 1 dislike...better than i hoped for.
