What Are You Listening To?

Another surprise, I thought I liked this. I don't. Much prefer the Ten Years After stuff. Alvin Lee was the lead
vocalist/guitarist for that group, formed in the mid 60's, getting their start in Germany, shortly after the
Beatles. Concert promoter Bill Graham gave them their big break, inviting them to tour the states, leading to a
Woodstock gig. The band had a ten album run before Lee decided to split. A couple of albums on his own before
forming Ten Years Later for this debut. Lee is well known as a great guitarist, a talent not easily recognized by
me, so I'll take the pros word for it. If you can strum a few chords, you're a great guitarist to me. This album
falls in the blues/rock area and like most of that type for me, nothing stands out. Some decent tracks with enough
instrumentals (3) to drag it down to a do not like. Peaked at #115 on the Billboard chart.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Alvin's Blue Thing

Best Track - The Devil's Screaming

The soul is crying, to be set free
There's someone calling, inside of me
The devil's screaming, and I won't let him have his way
Oh, no, no, no

The soul is searchin', to find the key
There's so much confusion, inside of me
The devil is screaming, and I won't let him have his way
Have his way - oh, no, no, no - no, no

The life we're living, was half of gold
There's good and evil, down in my soul
The devil's screaming, and I won't let him have his way
No, let him have his way - yeah
Let the soul carry on - yeah, yeah

One of my favourites - classic Camel

Have you tried Rajaz, Dust & Dreams, Pressure Points or Nude?
'The purpose of life is a life of purpose' - Athena Orchard.

I've always liked Camel and really started to give them a much more serious listen after I heard how they have influenced other bands I appreciate.

Sixto Rodriguez - Cold Fact - apart from Mr Dylan and Mr Simon, probably the most creative lyricist I have ever heard.
'The purpose of life is a life of purpose' - Athena Orchard.

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd. To be followed by Mr Oldfield's 'Incantations'. I'll see what falls out of the cupboards next......

Hard for me to not like a Zeppelin album, even this one, which was released two years after Bonhams death and the
split of the group due to that. Consisting of studio outtakes and live tracks. Zeppelin was my introduction to what
was then considered hard rock. Their debut is probably one of my most played albums in those years and remains my
favorite of the bands. This is undoubtably the weakest but I still like it. Only track I love here is Darlene, then
they had to through in the drum solo track of Bonzo's Montreux which only a drummer can appreciate. We're Gonna
Groove and the previously released track of I Can't Quit You Baby, are from a Royal Albert Hall concert performance
in 1970 but can't equal the studio version for me. Two reasons this album was released, Page wanted to clear out
the vault and a fulfillment of a 5 album contract obligation to Atlantic Records. It reached #6 in the US and #4 in
the UK.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Bonzo's Montreaux

Best Track - Darlene

Darlene, oooh Darlene, oooh Darlene,
Darlene, oh oh Darlene, oh oh Darlene
oooh Come on baby give me some

When I see you at that dance with your tight dress on
Whatcha got it sure is fine
I wanna get me some

Darlene, woooh baby baby Darlene, oooh be my baby Darlene,
ooh, come on baby... be my baby

Darlene, ooh, Darlene, hey! hey! Darlene, oh oh
Come back and be my sweet little girl
When I see you on the street, it makes my heart go flitter
I see you walkin with all those guys
It makes me feel so sick

And I don't care what people say
And I don't care what they do
Sweet child I gotta make you mine
You're the only thing that I want: You!
Baby Baby when you walk down the block,
See the people flock
Woooh! Child! Oh ya drive me wild!
I gotta do it really gonna try

Oh baby, I got my car
I'll take you as far
I'm gonna take you every place
I'm gonna boogie-woogie-woogie-woogie that's fine

I'm gonna prove it, Darlene
I'm gonna make ya my girl
I'm gonna boogie, Darlene
I'm gonna send ya in another world

Cause I love Darlene, I gotta love ya, Yes I do
I've been savin all my money
I've been workin all day long
I gotta give it all back to you!

Oh but I love you Darlene
yes I love you, yes I do
I've been working, still I keep working everyday
I've been trying to get home to you

And I love you, Darlene
Yes I love you, I do
I got a pink carnation and a pick-up truck
Save me baby, I'm for you, oh I love you
