wish i had more of an older techno background... all i know really is kraftwerk (of course), who by the way are playing 8 DAYS STRAIGHT AT MOMA IN APRIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been listening to Bonobo. For example, his song Silver, and everything else from the Animal Magic album. Bonobo - Silver - YouTube

MOBY "play" cd,1999. they call this guy the master of techno... if he is the pinnacle of techno, then thank God i dont have much Techno....not that this is a bad album though, just dont rate it as a masterpiece like the critics did and still do. it is certainly an interesting piece of work though, a bit funky,bluesy,jazzy,gospelly,hip-hoppy and ambient all at the same time...some nice vocal samples here from old blues and jazz vocalist including newly departed Etta James. several great ones on here IMO, but that gets off-set with the six instrumentals which i do not like at all....i have nothing against instrumental music, but without vocals it needs to hold my attention for the duration otherwise it just dont cut it for me!...and the ones on here dont, they are too repeatative, thats not to say that all "vocal" songs arent repeatative, some are and most of those i dont like either, whoever sings them! a lot of good tracks on here also, and had it not been for the instrumental ambience, then this would rate 2.3 for me, however it comes in a bit lower than i thought it would at 1.9. pretty sure i got this one around the time it was released along with Fatboy Slim's "youve come a long way baby" album, this one has not fared as well as Fatboy's over the last decade, but nonetheless is still an ok album, and one that i actually enjoy listening to regardless of the dull bits. allmusic 'genius' pro's give this 4.5/5 or a converted 2.7. i have his follow up to this one also, bought it on the strength of liking this one, unfortunately i dont recall liking it...i guess time will tell when it comes to the top of the pile! I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: guitar, flute and strings best track: run on tracks: 1. honey *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW4AKNjQ1FI&ob=av2e vevo video 2. find my baby ** 3. porcelain ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13EifDb4GYs&ob=av2e vevo video 4. why does my heart feel so bad? *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qT6XCvDUUsU&ob=av2e vevo video 5. south side ** 6. rushing * 7. bodyrock ** 8. natural blues *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3YMxM1_S48&ob=av2e vevo video 9. machete ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PG9sU5e8rDM audio 10.7 * 11.run on *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrBGUqNBEgE audio 12.down slow * 13.if things were perfect ** 14.everloving * 15.inside * 16.guitar,flute and strings * 17.the sky is broken ** 18.my weakness * 3s=4 2s=8 1s=6 rating: 1.9

from my library (vinyl)
Don't much care for this, or Numan in general. I did like Cars, which is probably why I have this. Just too much computer techno stuff for me. Surprised to see Queen's Roger Taylor showing up on a few tracks. This is Gary's fifth album, and made #3 in Britian, after his last three had made #1. Quite bigger there than here where this could only manage #167. This album is quite laid back and has nothing danceable despite the title. Maybe if you dance like a slow motion robot. The only single released was She's Got Claws which made #6 in the UK. Track listings I see on this now show 16 tracks, although my vinyl copy only has 11. The other 5 probably wouldn't have helped me any. Too drum machine for me. Is Roger Taylor a machine? I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Cry The Clock Said Best Track - Stories She sits in the corner Where it's reasonably quiet Drinking coffee with cream Thinking stories of young love She calls to the waiter 'Won't you lend me some time? You can sit by my side And I'll let you be friends with mine.' The cafe is old But the candlelight's new She orders Beaujolais wine And says 'I've thought of you too' She whispers 'Isn't it odd You remind me of songs That I'd rather forget Like feelings I longed for You haunt me inside Sometimes I recall Question mistakes Who grew to nothing at all' I hear voices that cry And one of them's mine All the things I could say Are the reasons I can't She says 'I've seen you before In thoughts I call 'son' Like an old film with sound When the link comes undone' The waiter is me And the woman is you And we are the story Just like others I knew 1) Slowcar To China ** audio - Gary Numan - SlowCar To China - YouTube 2) Night Talk * audio - Gary Numan - Night Talk - YouTube 3) A Subway Called You * audio - Gary Numan - A Subway Called 'You' - YouTube 4) Cry The Clock Said * audio - Gary Numan - Cry, The Clock Said - YouTube 5) She's Got Claws ** video - Gary Numan She's got Claws Promo Video 1981 - YouTube 6) Crash * audio - Gary Numan - Crash - YouTube 7) Boys Like Me * audio - Gary Numan - Boys Like Me - YouTube 8) Stories ** audio - Gary Numan - Stories - YouTube 9) My Brothers Time ** audio - Gary Numan - My Brother's Time - YouTube 10) You Are, You Are * audio - Gary Numan - You Are, You Are - YouTube 11) Moral * audio - Gary Numan - Moral - YouTube 3's - 0 2's - 4 1's - 7 Grade - 1.4 so many albums, so little time

Gary Numan is featured on the highly acclaimed experimental rock Battles album - Gloss Drop. I think he fits in well on this album as a featured artist.

Isn't Battles the band with Anthony Braxton's kid?
Anyways, Untrue by Burial To my surprise, I'm actually really enjoying this. There's these annoying crackly sounds that sort of interrupt the overall sound, but otherwise I'm really digging it |
