What Are You Listening To?
SteveO Wrote:Finally !!! Wouter "Wally" Gaultier Gotye De Backer has garnered attention ! I have been listening to this album since it was first posted by you and it is a great album ! De Backer is a musical genius of sorts with his many genres of music from pop to the avant garde to electronica to jazz and more ! I love this album so much that I now also have his albums Boardface (pretty sure it's a spinoff of Woodface - Crowded House in name) and Like Drawing Blood !...simply genius....my favorite album of 2012 thus far is Making Mirrors along with the previously acclaimed Weather Systems by Anathema !!!!

Thank you Crazy-Horse for posting Gotye's Making Mirrors and for introducing this remarkable artist to me !!!!!

bugger!....
forgot to add....
Gotye has another album, other than Like Drawing Blood....cant think of the title but it has "blood" in the title also, but it is a remix album, Corey says "avoid it!"

THE VERVE "urban hymns" cd,1997.

third album by Richard Ashcroft and Co,
i personally dont see what all the fuss is about here with this "legendary britpop" album...Blur and Oasis were way better even on their bad days!
Tiggi would take me to task on this one as he did about Radiohead and that stupid "ok computer" album he loves...but not me,sadly...
just never saw what the hype was with either band?!
nothing great on here IMO, i got over "bittersweet symphony" years ago and this time round its just an 'average track'...
album hit #1 in the UK, had a fistful of hit singles also, but its the lowest charting single(#74) that is my favourite track on here,,,Sonnet.
must admit i like the orchestrations a hell of a lot here, thinking its just Ashcrofts vocals that put me off this one, just find him dull, boring and without 'oomph!' for a britpop kinda guy.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Didn't know these guys had fifteen albums. This is number seven. Nothing great, one dud with Come A Long Way. Also didn't know Jim Kerr got hitched with Chrissie Hynde. You learn all kids of stuff doing this. Of course I'll forget it tomorrow, but I will have known it for a day. Pop memories. If not for Breakfast Clubs Don't You (Forget About Me), which came out just prior to this album, would these guys have ever made it here? The only track I can recall. Not even sure if I have any other albums. That song was a #1 here and probably pushed this album into the top 10, but, surprise, it's not even on here. The song was offered to Billy Idol and Bryan Ferry who both turned it down before a reluctant Jim Kerr decided to give it a shot. Closing out The Breakfast Club movie it became the groups first U.S. hit. Back to this album, Alive And Kicking was a #3 hit, just ok for me. Sanctify Yourself is my favorite, which reached #14. The album went on to be their biggest seller both here and in the U.K. Can't see that it's all that, just an average album for me.

Worst Track - Come A Long Way

Best Track - Sanctify Yourself

Is this the age of the thunder and rage
Can you feel the ground move 'round your feet
If you take one step closer, it'll lead to another
The crossroad above is where we meet
I shout out for shelter, I need you for something
The whole world is out, they're all on the street
Control yourself, love is all you need
Control yourself, in your eyes
Sanctify yourself, sanctify
Be apart of me, sanctify
Sanctify yourself, sanctify
Sanctify yourself, set yourself free

In pictures of living, in bloodshot a vision
Sweet miracles and strange circumstances
I see the sun up, the showdown, the cool winds that blow down
On the big beat that life-long romance is
You've got a gun in your hand, you're making self plans
Stay with me all through the night
Control yourself, love is all you need
Control yourself, open up your heart
Sanctify yourself, sanctify
Be apart of me, sanctify
Sanctify yourself, sanctify
Sanctify yourself, set yourself free

You can't stop the world for a boy or a girl
Sweet victims of poor circumstances
But you can pour back the love, sweeping down from above
Giving hope and making more chances
Well, I hope and I pray that maybe someday
You'll come back down here and show me the way
Control yourself, love is all you need
Control yourself, open up your heart
Open up your heart
Sanctify yourself, sanctify
Sanctify yourself, sanctify
