What Are You Listening To?
CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:ok...

i obviously like this one a lot better than you MH...pretty sure when i did it a long time ago that it got around 2.4 with Sacrifice as my favourite track, cant remember if your worst track or Club At The End Of The Street got worst track???

the double "A" side hit Healing Hands/Sacrifice was incidently his first solo #1 hit in the UK...amazing fact considering the great tunes he had in the 1970s and early 1980s!

yea, but you're weird
things like this have to be taken into consideration

Weirdo number 2 checking in.....Sacrifice - hands down the best track. The book 'Elton' is quite interesting to read. The one thing Elton wanted more than anything was a number 1 hit in the UK. Sacrifice was it. But the album I play the most is the 'Live in Australia' set. The first three tracks on that are just awesome. Superb orchestral arrangments as well.

Elton has played around the region a few times in the past two years or so and all accounts are that he was fantastic...just him and a piano!!!!!

Have this one on vinyl and considered it a bargain on cd for $5. Re-released in 2009 as a two disc set with a bunch
of outtakes as bous tracks. I'll take this original any day. Rod's seventh solo album and in his best form. The
vinyl was broke down to a slow side and a fast side. Love all the slow side tracks and like everything on the fast
side. Seems to be the case with most of Rod's work for me. Love his ballads and like most of the rockers. As for the
covers thing he's been on for awhile, not for me. A lot of strings to back the ballads here, and the fast ones get a
nice backing from the Memphis Horns. Only four Stewart originals, three of them ballads. The Killing Of Georgie has
always been my favorite. Tonights The Night was the #1 hit single. A #1 album in the UK and a #2 here. Remains one
of Rod's best for me.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Big Bayou

Best Track - The Killing Of Georgie

In these days of changing ways
so called liberated days
a story comes to mind of a friend of mine

Georgie boy was gay I guess
nothin' more or nothin' less
the kindest guy I ever knew

His mother's tears fell in vain
the afternoon George tried to explain
that he needed love like all the rest

Pa said there must be a mistake
how can my son not be straight
after all I've said and done for him

Leavin' home on a Greyhound bus
cast out by the ones he loves
A victim of these gay days it seems

Georgie went to New York town
where he quickly settled down
and soon became the toast of the great white way

Accepted by Manhattan's elite
in all the places that were chic
No party was complete without George

Along the boulevards he'd cruise
and all the old queens blew a fuse
Everybody loved Georgie boy

The last time I saw George alive
was in the summer of seventy-five
he said he was in love I said I'm pleased

George attended the opening night
of another Broadway hype
but split before the final curtain fell

Deciding to take a short cut home
arm in arm they meant no wrong
A gentle breeze blew down Fifth Avenue

Out of a darkened side street came
a New Jersey gang with just one aim
to roll some innocent passer-by
There ensued a fearful fight
screams rang out in the night
Georgie's head hit a sidewalk cornerstone

A leather kid, a switchblade knife
He did not intend to take his life
He just pushed his luck a little too far that night

The sight of blood dispersed the gang
A crowd gathered, the police came
An ambulance screamed to a halt on Fifty-third and Third

Georgie's life ended there
but I ask who really cares
George once said to me and I quote

He said "Never wait or hesitate
Get in kid, before it's too late
You may never get another chance
'Cos youth a mask but it don't last
live it long and live it fast"
Georgie was a friend of mine

Oh Georgie stay, don't go away
Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh Georgie stay, don't go away
Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh Georgie stay, don't go away
Georgie, Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh Georgie stay

LOU REED "rock and roll heart" cd,1976.

im not really a Lou Reed fan...like a few songs here and there, but got this one a fair while ago in a five cd studio album boxset...i figured i'd like enough over the five discs to make it worthwhile, plus i get the opportunity to see what his 1970s albums are like...
i dont like it and neither to allmusic(they give it a converted 1.2)...
i dunno?,
just find him overrated as an artist and cannot believe just how many artists he hs influenced over the decades...
best part of the album is all the sax work...gotta love the sax man! its an awesome instrument IMO,but does nothing to enhance the songs much...
this one just sounds too commercial for an underground/alternative artist..maybe he was trying to please his new label bosses by trying to make something that would sell, which it didnt as it stalled around #64-ish on the US charts...
look, im not putting up links for this one, am totally sick of picking up and listening to bad albums over the last two weeks...pretty sure all the bad ones in my collection have cropped up at the same time...here's hoping for some 'good ones' to emerge soon or im going to go crazy!!!!

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: ladies pay
best track: banging on my drum

tracks:

1. i believe in love **
2. banging on my drum **
3. follow the leader **
4. you wear it so well **

I love Lou Reed's album "Coney island baby" but I have to be in the " Lou Reed Mood" but that is the album I usually choose first.

Right now, upon reading this issue of Rolling Stone, I am listening to Sharon Van Etten... I am not sure of my thoughts yet. Now really my genre but we shall see...
