I've always thought of these awards as the U.S. equivalent of being knighted.

Singer, songwriter, poet, artist and now Medal of Freedom Winner.

On Tuesday, Bob Dylan received the nation's highest civilian honor, accepting the Medal of Freedom from President Obama. "There is not a bigger giant in the history of American music," Obama said of the singer.


The Medal of Freedom is presented to individuals who have made "meritorious contributions to the national interest of the United States, to world peace, or to other significant endeavors," according to the White House.
To that end, Obama praised Dylan, saying that his music redefined "not just what music sounded like but the message it carried and how it made people feel."

at least Paul Weller has declined his nomination for an OBE or MBE or whatever one it was on two occasions!!!!

seriously though Dylan deserves it!!!!

Sorry couldn't resist that - but without a doubt the greatest influence on American music. I just like listening to the man. And the words. One of his talents was his ability to weave a hundred different stories into one song. And keep the overall thread going as well. A magician.

A well deserved honour...well overdue! Perhaps Bob felt comfortable accepting the honour from Obama moreso than other presidents!

He certainly stepped up a notch ...got a hair cut and he's wearing a bow tie...lol
