What Are You Listening To?
Walk This Way is one of those classics that even felt like a "classic to be" back in the day IMO

JET - Get Born (2003)

Are You Gonna Be My Girl was this Australian rock band's big hit from their debut album Get Born. However there are a lot more very good songs on this! Shades of The Beatles, McCartney and The Rolling Stones show up on this album. Very good up tempo straight ahead rock with good melodic songs. The group disbanded in March of this year after only releasing three albums.

i thought "look what you done" had distinctive Lennon overtones to it....
SteveO,
if you dont already own their other two albums...dont bother!, IMO they gradually get worse, the second one is ok,the third one is downright aweful!...
also, thanks for the info...didnt realise they had disbanded??!!!

CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL "green river" cd,1969.

have previously done three or maybe four of CCR's seven studio albums, all of which get a love rating from me,as do most of John's solo albums, and this one is no different....just simply "love the man", i mean, hell, who doesnt!!!!????
this is their third album in the space of something like 13 months(released seven in all in just over three years)...so prolific!!!!!
i saw an intervies with Fogerty just prior to his tour here in march, he said this one was his favourite CCR album...probably because all the infighting hadnt started yet and they were technically still a "band!"...
lots of dark overtones in the lyrics though offset with happy, upbeat tunes...
probably only a handful of tracks throughout his entire career that i can say i do not like, none of which are on here...
John is set to release another studio album later this year, but with only a few new songs on it,the rest being covers of old CCR tracks i can say im not looking foreward to it....but whatever, the guy is a musical genius IMO and his place in rock and roll history was carved in stone way back in 1970ish!
yeh, and i know youre thinking...why isnt Bad Moon Rising the best track on here...well,let me tell y'all, these guys studio album tracks were just as good if not better than their singles IMO!!!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

JOHNNY CASH "johnny cash at folsom prison" cd,1968.

probably my favourite "live" album ever....recorded live at Folsom Prison in front of an audience of rapists, murderers, paedophiles, armed robbers etc etc...
the atmosphere and electricity in the hall are all present on the album....
the album came about after Johnny had hit an all-time low both in his personal and proffessional life. personal, because he had failed to woo June Carter into marrying him,his drug and alcohol abuse was at an all time high, infact he had tried to commit suicide only months previously by entering a cave in Arkansas with as many drugs as he could carry...he decided enough was enough and sought to end it...
proffessionally because, sales of Cash records had tanked, his record company were on the verge of dumping him...
so after he survived his attempted suicide he went to the recording executives and told them he should be allowed to record a prison concert album as they were always good shows...
the record exec's finally agreed and so this one was recorded.
No stranger to performing behind bars(cash had done it since the late 1950s) he was pumped...
when he got to Folsom for the show the Warden told him he didnt want him doing songs of murder, incarceration, drugs etc etc because "the inmates dont need to be reminded of where they are, they need to escape reality for a while"....Cash's response to the Warden was "how can they forget theyre in this shithole"...the warden was not impressed, and in true Johnny Cash style, he changes the entire set list on the spot to sing songs about subjects that the Warden told him not to...
so what we have here is a collection of live tracks that not only the inmates could relate to but also ones they could, with Johnny, have some lighthearted banter over inbetween the songs....

so all up, an album that every serious music lover should own, showing just how musicians can become "one" with their audience if they actually hold out a hand of friendship instead of the hand of "greed and money!"

Pet Sounds

Needs no introduction. Along with the VU's debut and "Trout Mask Rplica", this is literally the only acclaimed album to have actually earned that acclaim, because, not only as it genuinely changed music (how many idie bands have you heard try and ut do Brain? Let's just say "a lot"), but because the music itself is absolutely fantastic. These melodies are still one of a kind, often imitated but never, an I mean NEVER, bettered. That album is simultaneously easy because of just how blatantly good some of the melodies are, but also challening because of just how layered and complex they are. It's not perfect, I won't lie (seriously, screw "Don't Talk, Put Your Head On My Shoulders"), but taken as a whole, it truly is one of the vst albums of all time

Nice to hear Steven before he cheapened himself. One of rocks greatest screamers. With the size of that mouth, it
had to emit something great. Gene Simmons tongue could fit in there twice. If not for the two covers on here, would
love this one. Those bring it down a bit. A super group shouldn't cover a super group, as with Come Together. Only
thing worse is trying to do a classic girl group like the Shangri-Las with Remember. Other than those, a fine album,
considering the scant 10 tracks. Slim for a super group greatest package, but this was before cd's took over. Even
so, this covers the groups first six albums and falls short of a good view of those early years. The compilation has
become the groups best selling album, going what they call diamond status with 11 million copies sold. Walk This Way
has always been my favorite from those early years, and I always hated the Run DMC slaughtering. And Big Ten Inch
Record should have been on here.

Worst Track - Remember (Walking In The Sand)

Best Track - Walk This Way

Backstroke lover always hidin' 'neath the covers
'Til I talked to your daddy he say
He said you ain't seen nothin' 'til you're down on a muff and
Then you're sure to be a-changin' your way
I met a cheerleader was a real young bleeder
Oh the times I could reminisce
'Cause the best things of lovin' with her sister and her cousin
Only started with a little kiss
A like this

See-saw swingin' with the boys in the school
And your feet flyin' up in the air
Singin' hey diddle diddle
With your kitty in the middle of the swing like you didn't care
So I took a big chance at the high school dance
With a missy who was ready to play
Wasn't me she was foolin' 'cause she knew what she was doin'
And I know love was here to stay
When she told me to

Walk this way
Walk this way
Walk this way
Walk this way
Walk this way
Walk this way
Walk this way
Walk this way

A just gimme a kiss
Like this

School girl sweetie with a sassy kinda classy
Little skirt's climbin' way up the knee
It was three young ladies in a school gym locker
When I noticed they were lookin' at me
I was a high school loser never made it with a lady
'Til the boys told me something I missed
Then my next door neighbor with a daughter had a favor
So I gave her just a little kiss
A like this

Seesaw swingin' with the boys in the school
And your feet flyin' up in the air
I sing hey diddle diddy
Wit'cha kitty in the middle of the swing like ya didn't care
So I took a big chance at the high school dance
With a missy who was ready to play
Wasn't me she was foolin' 'cause she knew what she was doin'
When she told me how to walk this way
She told me to

Walk this way

so many albums, so little time

Ashamed to say this was the first Aerosmith album I ever owned... Bought earlier this year in the discount bin at CVS. GREAT album and I really "stuffed" up not putting in the effort to listen to them more. Eventually I'll have to get "Toys in the Attic." I'm appalled at how long its taken me to get into them compared to other bands whose discography I've blown through.

Anyways, I'm listening to;

"Ambition" - Tommy Shaw

I always forget about this album in my collection but its such a beauty, if you're into this type of music. The album is essentially a giant soundtrack for Miami Vice. Its not based around Miami Vice, but every time I hear it I picture the entire Miami Vice scene. Its just so great in that sense. It may not have been critically acclaimed (Or even decent according to the only review I can find, a 2.5/5 from Allmusic), but its a wonderfully fun album. The synth's mix with Tommy's guitar and light voice to create a fun throwback album. I guess at the time it was unoriginal, and it probably still is, but it just feels like the definition of the Miami Vice era. Years after the era ended, this album is good clean nostalgia for those who lived through it (Daydreams and fantasies for the young 'uns like myself who didn't. Sad) and all-around fun.

LEON RUSSELL "carney" cd,1972.

thought i'd check out some vintage Leon after i loved his work with Elton a couple of years ago, and man, this guy is a living breathing genius if that album and this one are anything to go by...
great writer, pianist, vocalist IMO...i know Elton claims him to be a major influence on his career, and after hearing this one a couple of times now, its easy to see why.
this album is as good as anything ive ever heard from that early 1970s period of music and without that stupid instrumental and the short little interlude of the title track this would without doubt get a love rating here today...
guessing im now going to seek out more of Leon's material...darn it, with him and Jethro Tull im going to be busy over the next year or so!
