NEIL YOUNG "landing on water" cd,1986.

cant believe of all the Neil Young albums i had to get this one turn up today....
without a doubt,IMO, the worst thing he has ever released, and like the beginners guide overview...i still do not a single track on it,ive tried to like this one, well at least a coupleof tracks and cannot find a single positive with it...mayeb you're wondering why i dont like it...i dont know, maybe its the lame lyrics, maybe its the uninspiring vocals or the crappy 1980s synth-drums... whatever it is its worse than that stupid album artwork, which is the best thing thing about this one.....
avoid at all costs, believe me, i try to!
and oh yeah...
had this one had come out prior to the Boss one above, then Bruce's album would probably have scored a lot higher LOL!

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: the first one as it leads to another eight bad ones!
best track: the final 10seconds of track nine, because its just about finished!

Nashville had tired of Steve Earles attempts to strech the boundary of country music after only two albums. The
heroin problem didn't help either. Whatever the cause it resulted in his best selling album, with the title track
being one of his better known songs. Not sure if the album is my favorite. Three outstanding tracks and nothing bad.
Earle is considered alt country by most but there's more rock than country on here. Guest appearances from the
Pogues on Johnny Come Lately (my favorite), and Maria McKee (Lone Justice) on Nothing But A Child. Some lefty
political stuff thrown in, being the Reagan era. Two singles of Copperhead Road and Back To The Wall, neither of
which made it to the country chart. The album went to #7 country and #56 overall. Crap, I shouldnt have said the Pogues were on that track, now CH won't like it.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Waiting On You

Best Track - Johnny Come Lately

I'm an American, boys, and I've come a long way
I was born and bred in the USA
So listen up close, I've get something to say
Boys, I'm buying this round
Well it took a Iittke while but we're in this fight
And we ain't going home 'til we've done what's right
We're gonna drink Camden Town dry tonight
If I have to spend my last pound
When I first got to London it was pourin' down rain
Met a Iittle girl in the field canteen
Painted her name on the nose of my plane
Six more missions I'm gene
Well I asked if I could stay and she said that I might
Then the warden came around yelling "turn out the lights"
Death rainin' out of the London night
We made love 'til dawn

But when Johnny Come Lately comes marching home
With a chest full of medals and a G.l. loan
They'll be waitin' at the station down in San Antone
When Johnny comes marching home

MY P-47 is a pretty good ship
And she took a round coming cross the Channel last trip
I was thinking 'bout my baby and letting her rip
Always got me through so far
Well they can ship me all over this great big world
But I'll never find nothing like my North End girl
I'm taking her home whh me one day, sir
Soon as we win this war

Now my granddaddy sang me this song
Told me about Londen when the Blitz was on
How he married Grandma and brought her back home
A hero throughout his land
Now I'm standing on a runway in San Diego
A couple Purple Hearts and I move a little slow
There's nobody here, maybe nobody knows
About a place called Vietnam

I could have put this post in the Jazz and Classical Forum but decided to insert it here since The Beatles are rock n' roll.

THE BEATLES ....JAZZ AND CLASSICAL INTERPRETATIONS

Michael Occhipinto - The Universe with John Lennon ....
jazz stylings of Beatle songs....very nice....it has been stated that The Beatles are the most covered band in history...over 6,000 covers !!!!...just goes to illustrate the appreciation and tribute that other artists have for the Fab Four!....they didn't record Beatle music for the money,,,that's for sure !!!!..they did it to please themselves !

I love to hear different interpretations of the Beatle songbook as it clearly demonstrates the beauty, ingenuity and originality of Lennon and McCartney !

RAIN - Michael Occhipinto on guitar and friends

Also listening to The Beatles in Bossa Nova, King Singers sing The Beatles, Various Jazz artists tribute to the Beatles in Jazz, Bluenote Jazz plays The Beatles and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra plays Beatle Classics !...all fabulous listens!

Unrecognizable from any later albums, the Moodies debut broke them with the superb Go Now. Not anything on here as
good as that for me and this album rates way below any of the subsequent work. Two different bands. The UK release
of this was titled The Magnificent Moodies and had a different track listing. In the states Go Now was released long
before an album to support it, resulting in the album never even charting, as Go Now had run it's course. Bad
marketing I guess. Justin Hayward and John Lodge did not join the group until after this album. Denny Laine and
Clint Warwick departed to make way for them. Denny has most of the vocal chores on this album and had a lot of
creative control for the group. Denny leaving had a lot to do with the dramatic change in sound I would think. The
album was re-released in 1970 after the success of Tuesday Afternoon off of Days Of Future Passed. If fans were
expecting to hear that sound when they went back to the first album, they were deeply disappointed. That would be
me. Still love Go Now though. One of their best.

Worst Track - Bye Bye Burd

Best Track - Go Now

We've already said ‘Goodbye’.
Since you've got to go
Oh you had better go now.
Go now. Go now. Go now
Before you see me cry.
I don't want you to tell me
Just what you intend to do now.
'Cause how many times do I have to tell you
Darling, darling,
I'm still in love
With you now?

We've already said ‘So long’
I don't want to see you go.
Oh you had better go now.

Go now. Go now. Go now
Don't you even try telling me
That you really don't want me to end this way
'Cause, darling, darling,
Can't you see I want you to stay?

We've already said ‘Goodbye’.
Since you've got to go
Oh you had better go now.

Go now. Go now. Go now
Before you see me cry.
I don't want you to tell me
Just what you intend to do now.
'Cause how many times do I have to tell you
Darling, darling,
I'm still in love,
Still in love,
With you now?

I don't want to see you go
But, darling,
You'd better go now.

Sixth album and the follow up to Thick As A Brick. The concept album thing must have worked. Not as good as Brick
for me and I'm still pissed at the splitting up of The Hare Who Lost His Spectacles between side 1 and side 2. The
album is the story of a man's spiritual journey through the afterlife. Hey, that's what it says. I don't just make
this shit up. There are no individual track listings or band seperation on my vinyl release but I see the cd has
them. Would not have expected this to have sold that well on release but it did go to #1 here and #13 in the UK.
With the recent release of Thick As A Brick 2 will we now see A Passion Play 2? I hope not.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM
