Coulda swore this would have got a love score, misses by 1 point. I know, I coulda cheated, but I don't
like to. The James Brown cover killed it. Nobody can do that like the Godfather, especially some punk
white boys from England. Which is probably what the members of the Who were around the time of this debut.
One instrumental track gets another do not like. I still get 6 love scores out of the album which makes it
a must have. Guess there was a different cover in England? Shows two and this is the one I have. The album
was later dismissed by the band as being a rush job, after the success of the single, My Generation. Maybe
the rush job is why it works. The critics sure like it, often mentioned as one of the best rock albums of
all time. I see now there was a different cover on the U.K. version, plus a track switch. We didn't get
I'm A Man on our release, instead getting Instant Party. Can't we just be one world. At least when it
comes to music. Something strange on the charts for the single My Generation, only reached #74 here and #2
in the UK. And The Kids Are Alright and A Legal Matter didn't even chart here. Stupid Americans. Then to
top that, the album didn't even chart here? wtf?

A downfall was due after Six Wives, Centre Of The Earth, and King Arthur. Another concept album here,
something about a futuristic look at music. I never was real good at grasping concept albums, The Wall
excluded, I got that one. The copy I have of this is a promo copy. Big label on the cover that says
"banded for radio airplay", meaning the five part Music Reincarnate has a track separation. Assuming the
"for sale" copies had this as one continuous track. Except for part 5 which is on side 2 of the vinyl.
Only 2 other tracks besides that. Since there was separation I graded each of those alone. The only love
track is The Prisoner, far outweighs the competition. With 3 don't likes on a 7 track album, that barely
gives it a passing grade. The album could only reach #67 here, but the UK was on board at #9. Looking
back, this album may have been the root of my decline as a fan. Probably my bad.
I'd be interested in hearing what our resident Wakeman/Yes expert thinks of this album.

I don't know who the resident Wakeman/Yes expert is but it's not a fave of mine. His great ones are
Six Wives
Journey
King Arthur
White Rock
Criminal Record
Live at Hanmmersmith
I have a lot of his other stuff but nothing comes close to those six.

Weekly jump into the cd stack. Still in the Dylan collection with his 22nd album here. Bob was ready to
move on after his christian run of three albums. The public was ready prompting a resurgence in sales. His
first gold album after failing with the last two. Mark Knopler was on board for this one, and his guitar
presence is all over it. Also co-produced with Dylan, after Bowie, Zappa and Costello were considered.
Mick Taylor, Alan Clarke, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare also play on the album. Loking back, I think
that's what kept Bob interesting was his constant switching of musicians on his albums. The sessions for
the album yielded many tracks that didn't appear, other than in a bootleg version. Although there was no
tour for the album, Bob did make a rare appearance on national tv, on David Letterman's recently launched
late night show. There are clips from that which I chose not to post, as once again Bob changed the songs
so radically, they were nowhere close to the recorded version. They album scored at #20 here, #6 in
Australia, and #9 in the UK.
