These guys were huge among that arena rock crew of the mid-80's. Stadium sellouts were
frequent. I was on another track at the time and didn't appreciate the genre. Thirty years
later yields a different perspective. These guys were great at what they did. A nice
compilation here of the hits from those years, plus two new singles to suck in the fans. I see
that the cd release of this has two additional track not on my vinyl copy. Don't recall those
titles. I ended up with four love tracks here and nothing I don't like, just missing the love
album mark. Very nice album. It hit #56 on the chart here, and has since gone 3x platinum.

Elton John - Blue Moves. This and GYBR have to be his best albums. There are some real gems on this - Shoulder Holster, Tonight, Cage the Songbird, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word and many, many more brilliant interludes and quirky songs.
'The purpose of life is a life of purpose' - Athena Orchard.

PETE TOWNSHEND & THE DEEP END "deep end-live!" cd,1986.

at present, the only Townshend solo set i own, and it happens to be a live one at that...
also, strange this one comes out within a couple of weeks of finishing the "who i am" autobigraphy....
look,
i love the man...what he wrote with and for The who is classic stuff IMO, but as a soloist i dont think he quite makes it...his vocals arent varied enough, even sounding dull and dross on occasions...but when he sings the odd track on a Who album, it works if only to break up the sound of the album for three or four minutes...
the album here was recorded during his 1986 solo tour of the UK, a few solo tracks,a couple of Who tracks and a couple of old ones by other artists covered by Pete here...
not a bad album, stripped down to acoustic level for the most part, but the band kicks on on a few occasions to liven things up a bit, still, had this not been Townshend i probably wouldnt have given this a second look in the cd store, that said, his guitar work on the old blues classic "i put a spell on you" is brilliant, but even that is not enough to make me love the track, or for that matter any others on here...best scores here are 'likes' and that is a bit generous on a couple of occasions...
one for the die hards only IMO

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

I seem to be drawn to Tumbleweed Connection lately!,,,from 1970 somewhat obscure with no big selling singles...too difficult to choose a favorite from Sir Elton's vast catalogue!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

Nice pick CH! Recently Pete scolded a father in front of a sold out concert in Canada! Apparently he brought his 6 year old daughter along . She was holding a sign that said - WE LOVE YOU PETE! SMASH YOUR GUITAR!
Well Pete saw the sign and railed in on the guy accusing him of bringing his child to a Who concertand using her to express the wishes of the father! He shouted out **** off to the dad..and said he wanted to be noted for his present creativity ...whatever that is ..lol???? Everyone associates his antics of smashing guitars..they expect it ...they're the fans who give them money! Perhaps the guy shouldn't have brought a 6 year old to a loud concert but if the kid liked The Who ..why not!..as for Pete ..I think a young child present was more perplexing to him than the sign!
