there was a poll conducted recently amongst several hundred members of the ARIA out here, in which they had to vote on the Greatest Australian singers of all time...

there are more than a few surprises in the top50, and several i have not even heard of???

but over the next few weeks i will be counting down the top fifty as voted by the Australian Recording Industry Association until we get to #1...sort of like the Music Head top 500 songs of alltime list...

for each artist that comes up i will include the official ARIA comments on that particular artist, plus my own thoughts and include either a couple of links to tracks or one youtube video post...

feel free to comment on your thoughts of what you think of the songs linked...who knows someone out there in MD world may fall in love with an artist thay havent previously heard of

also,
any suggestions for the top 10 singers(assuming you know a few to list!) and we'll see how you go at the end of it all, personally i got four of the top10 correct and was more than surprised by some of the artists who i thought should have been higher than they are on the list....

JON STEVENS



BiographyStevens moved to Australia after success as a pop star in New Zealand in the 1970s (his best-known songs from this era are "Jezebel" and a cover of "Montego Bay"); he subsequently became an Australian citizen.
Noiseworks

Stevens is most recognised for his work as the lead singer of Sydney band, Noiseworks; the band experienced success in the 1980s with "Take Me Back" and "Touch".
In July 2012, Jon teamed up with production outfit Silver Sneakerz for a dance remake of Noiseworks' 1988 hit "Touch". It was released on dance label Hussle Recordings (a division of Ministry of Sound).
INXS

From 2000 to 2004, Stevens fronted Australian rock band INXS after the death of its lead singer Michael Hutchence. He wrote the official song for the Sydney 2000 Olympics Torch Relay, entitled "Carry the Flame", and although he briefly toured with the band, it wasn't until October 2002 that he was officially installed as their lead singer. The Stevens-fronted INXS did release a song called "I Get Up," but it was not a hit. He quit the band a year later before an album was released.
Stage

Once Noiseworks disbanded, Stevens was part of two Australian productions of Jesus Christ Superstar, playing Judas on both occasions, to high acclaim.
Solo career

In late-2004, Stevens released "Ain't No Life For The Faint Hearted", a modern R&B album best known for its cover version of The Doors' "Light My Fire".
In 2005, Stevens released "The Works", recorded as part of the Liberation Blue acoustic series. After a national tour with Ian Moss and Choirboys - "Six Strings & The Works" - he did a smaller acoustic tour, then took a short break before announcing Noiseworks were preparing to tour again in late September 2007.
After two months on the road across Australia, Stevens took a break. In January 2008, Stevens's management confirmed plans for a massive national tour with Ian Moss, Jack Jones & Tania Doko, entitled "Let's Get Together" scheduled to begin in Melbourne in April 2008, following an acoustic tour of regional Victoria with Aussie country singer Adam Brand.
In August 2011, Stevens released a new single "Just A Man" to Australian radio. A new solo album on a new record label, Universal Music Australia - called "Changing Times" - was scheduled for release in September 2011.
In November 2011, Universal Music Australia revealed that a new album of soul covers called "Testify!" would be released. The lead single which hit Australian radio in the last week of October 2011 is also called "Testify".
Television

In 2004, Stevens hosted the short-lived reality television "docu-soap", "The Resort". Produced by New Zealand company, Touchdown Television, the program was axed following its fifith week of production. Promoted as The Block (another Australian reality programme) in paradise, the concept of the series involved 15 young contestants building and staffing a Fiji holiday resort.[SUP][1][/SUP]

Noiseworks werent too bad, i could tolerate them...still cant recall his solo career singles though

INXS have had two or three different vocalists since MH died..pretty sure they released an album a couple of years ago, thing is though, it cant be INXS without Hutchence on vocals as he was an essential part fo their sound, would be like The Stones without Jagger or Who without Daltry...it couldnt possibly work!?

Ted Mulrey Gang(band) were a pretty popular group here back in the 1970s, see link below for one of their hits(i am not a fan)

was never a fan of INXS, liked a couple of their ballads like "never tear us apart" and a couple of others...i either loved or hated their music, only album i have is "kick",dont like that much at all,think that one got four or fove love scores,the rest "*"
Doors...morrison was 'the doors' with his distinct vocals for sure(even though im not a fan)
