ROBBIE WILLIAMS "escapology" cd, 2002...#1 UK, #3 AU, #43 US
Robbie's fifth studio set...i only own three(this one,"rudebox" and his covers album of old swing songs)
i love this guy...he has it all IMO, great voice, swagger, cheeky humour, showmanship, boyish charm, and he lays bare his soul warts and all on record for all to hear...
this is his best album IMO, contains four UK smash hits in tracks 2,3,5 and 9(five here with track 4 also...)
lots of ballads that build up into something special, lots of double meaning lyrics etc etc...
not bad for a guy who started off in a stupid boy band(take that)...
Robbie has released ten albums now, nine of which made it to #1 in the UK,the other was a dismal failure only reaching #2 in the charts...seven #1 singles as a solo artist in the UK with another five getting to #2...impressive stuff for any artist!
oh yeh,BTW...all of these clips for this one are worth watching IMO!
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

i have his covers album of old swing songs in my car right now,so that'll get posted shortly also, he does a very good job with that material IMO...

THE CAT EMPIRE "the cat empire" cd,2003.
debut set from these aussie guys....
i still fond it difficult to catagorize this album and the band in general. some stuff sounds quite cuban, some greek styles, some salsa, jazz, ska, its all there, not your usual modern music at all...
my favourite track here has a bit of a Kinks feel to it(their quieter 'sunny afternoon' type stuff), i could really imagine Davies doing it well...
anyway, the album peaked at #15 here but eventually went double platinum for the boys, their highest charting single off it was "the chariot" which reached #34 here, yet "hello" made it all the way to #12 in the "land of the long white cloud"(new zealand)...
a strange album, but i like it!

GIN WIGMORE "gravel and wine" cd,2012...#1 NZ, #5 AU, #84 US
New Zealand artist's second album...
sort of a cross between Amy's vocals and Adele's thumping beats on several of her singles(from "21")...
a very good album IMO, sort of bluesy and rootsy, bit jazzy, but a modern sound nonetheless, which is why i put it here...
great album IMO, and surprised it didnt do that well in the US, really thought there would be a huge market for her style over there(and in the UK)...who knows, maybe time will tell and this one will grow on those guys...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
