Just gave this a quick listen (flipping through tracks) - not bad at all - quite refreshing. I like the overall production of the album.

NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE "americana" cd, 2012. Can #2, AU 34, US $4, UK #16
Neil's thirty seventh studio set, and that doesnt include his movie soundtracks,Buffalo Springfield/Stills-Young Band or CSNY material...which would probably bring his career total to somewhere around 50 studio albums since 1967...awesome feat IMO!
this is also the first one with his garage band Crazy Horse in a decade...
the album is a set of covers, all of which are traditional American folk songs(dating back to the mid 1800s), or more modern folky covers,
the problem i have with this one is that it is often so far removed from the originals that with its grungy feel it isnt a folk covers set at all. in fact, IMO, it sounds like a bloody noisy mess!, but on the other hand, at least he is not simply duplicating old songs but trying to make them his own....
this album was also originally meant to be simple rehearsals for the follow-up double "psychadelic pill" album released later in the same year....
this album is not for anyone who is not a dedicated Neil Young fan, in fact, its quite hard to really stomach in places for those of us who are Neil-o-philes!
i also really dont think some of the "**" rated tracks really deserve that and i think i am being slightly optimistic with the strength of this album...
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

I agree CH ! I am not a big fan of superstar artists doing cover albums, I think it degrades their talent somewhat when you know they're capable of better ! CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:![[Image: 61nM446mULL._SY300_.jpg]](http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61nM446mULL._SY300_.jpg)

Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes. Not bad but I prefer 'Scarlett's Walk' - writing is far superior on that one.
