Didn't know this band had that many albums. I've got two of them and based on this one I'm out
other than the budget bin. This is the bands sixth album. Love the leadoff song and that was
it. Three that don't cut it. This was the bands first album to chart here, at #108. A minor hit
with She Don't Use Jelly, at #55. The replacement of 2 band members with Drozd and Jones was
the notable difference in the bands sound. Not a bad album, but not real good either. Allmusic
sure likes it though. Curious if the next one will fare better. btw, they have a new one on the way.

OF MONSTERS AND MEN "my head is an animal" cd, 2012
one of my 2012 end of year purchases...
these guys are from Iceland(isnt that where Bjork is from also?)...
lots of well crafted alt pop songe happening here, sort of a Mumfords/Arcade Fire cross thing happening throughout...
the album reached #1 here in Australia and in their home country, and made the top10 in the UK,CAN,NZ and the US...
four singles were lifted from the album, Dirty Paws(my favourite on here) which hit the top ten in Iceland...
King And Lionheart and Little Talks both made it to #1 in their home country and also made top10 here,top20 Stateside and the UK, and Mountain Sound which doesnt appear to have been released in Iceland but still made top30 here and in NZ...
all up, a good album with lovely melodies and sounds...

ALEX LLOYD "black the sun" cd, 1999 #9 AU
Alex' debut set from 1999...i was walking past a record shop back in the day and this album was playing instore over the speakers, i went in and inquired as to what it was, listened to the whole thing under headphones and was blown away by its simplicity and dark lyrical content, i bought it there and then...
Alex plays all instruments and co-produced it with ex-psychadelic Furs guitarist Ed Buller...
album(in a lot of places) sounds very similar to Peter Gabriel, no let me refrase that....his vocals sound a lot like Peter Gabriel in places, same phrase structure and tones IMO.
album ended up winning three ARIA's for 'breakthrough artist', 'album of the year' and 'best single' for "lucky star:, album went platinum out here, his follow up album "watching angels mend" went triple platinum, then he plateaued out, he is releasing his latest studio album later this year apparently(well, he's been saying that for a couple of years now so i wont hold my breath for that one!)
all up, a very fine album from a very talented guy!
hey Music Head, didnt i give you a copy of this one along with his best of set when i saw you???

THE BIRTHDAY PARTY "junkyard" cd,1981
never heard f these guys, guys?...and i wouldnt blame you if you hadnt, but their lead vocalist and principle writer was none other than "the prince of Goth" himself....Nick Cave!
yes, this was Caves original band before The Bad Seeds...
this is the group's second album, i also have their debut set "prayers on fire"(which i like)...
this one is often regarded as their best album amongst Cave-ologists, but its not mine, i dont like it!(probably the only Cave album i own that i dont like!)
i find the sounds on this one to be somewhat grungy mixed with a pairing of Public Image Ltd and Marilyn Manson, only Cave has a real deep bass tone to his vocal style.
this album/style was so 'out there' when originally released that no-one took any notice of it, thus it didnt make the charts out here, but did manage to scrape into the lower reaches of the UK albums chart...it was after this album that Cave and Co relocated themselves to London where he has stayed ever since!
the album still has the dark overtones that you'd expect of him, it just took him a few albums to hone his skills into what we know him to be now, all up, not a very good album IMO, but still, an important stepping stone to all things Gothic in the mind of Nick Cave!

Guess I should have given up after their previous one, which scored slightly higher than this one.
Nothing I love here and about an even split for what I could pass. Just too out there for me,
including the song titles. This is the bands seventh album. Says it is the last one with guitarist
Jones, and the band sound took on quite a change for the next one, which I haven't heard. Had to be
an improvement and the band is still around. Three singles off of this, none charting here but a
little action in the UK. No charting for the album on either shore. Looks like allmusic loves it.

AllMusic loves everything I don't ...lol...still puzzled that they would pick the singing priest-like Scott Walker's eccentric album Bisch Bosh as their number one album for 2012 ! ??? Music Head Wrote:Band Members for this release
