Thought I had previously posted this but damn if I can find it. Would have thought it would score a little higher on the second go round, but
it's pretty low this time. Picked it up from someones end of year list for 2009. Critics loved it, I fell for it, end of story. Brooklyn band
formed in 2002, this is their third album. Too alternative for me I guess. Some jazz influences for sure. I might even call them todays
progressive-rock. I can't progress anymore, I'm too old, too much friction when progressing. The group gained attention when opening for
Radiohead in 2008. Followed the tour up with this highly acclaimed album whose title is inspired by an uninhabited island on Cape Cod that the
band had visited. An old Indian name.......woops, sorry, native american name. They had a follow up album in 2011 which I had no interest in,
based on this one. They must have received some name recognition afrom the Radiohead gig, as this album entered the chart at #8. Here's an
interesting fact, the album was also included in the 2011 edition of the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Now I know I can go in
peace, knowing I have subjected myself to this.

RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS "greatest hits" cd, 2003
sixteen track singles collection from this California/Australian band...
well, Aussie is a technicality...Flea is the only Australian in this band...
i have a studio album somewhere,im not keen on it, i think of these guys as more of a singles abnd than an albums band...
theres an unusual song on here...a cover of the Stevie Wonder "higher ground" song, i prefer the Peppers version over Stevie's...
i love half the tracks on here, but three i dont like let this one down a bit by stopping it from becoming a "love" album..
all up though, a very good collection of these guys singles, oh yeh, ive got the deluxe version which has a bonus dvd of the video's for the songs which is worth it IMO as i love these guys videos

JERRY HARRISON & THE CASUAL GODS "casual gods" vinyl, 1988
album chart action: #78 US, #18 AU.
single chart action:
"rev it up".............#7 US, #3 AU.
"man with a gun"...#16 AU.
"cherokee chief"....# 92 AU.
Jerry Harrison was the keyboard guy for Talking Heads,
this is his second solo set...
the songs have a slight Talking Heads sound at times, but for the most part they are either too slow or the lyrics are not cryptic enough for their style...
track listing differs from the US to here though, one track,"breakdown in the passing lane" was omitted from the Aussie release and repleced with "bobby", yet both tracks appear on the cd version apparently..
this album starts off really well, opening with the very Heads sounding "rev it up" and the first side is very consistantly good, the secodn side is also consistant, but not in the same way...with three of the five tracks not making the grade for me...not sure if its the songs themselves or whether the lack of variation is to blame,
either way it still makes the grade as an album, but not enough for me to want to update with the cd version...

Her 18th album and somewhat of a comeback considering the previous Wrecking Ball never even made the country chart. This one made it to #5 and I
don't even hear anything country on it. Even though this is a different producer, this is a carry over of the Daniel Lanois sound that she
picked up with Wrecking Ball, which is actually a U2 sound to me. And it doesn't fit Emmylou at all. Still a beautiful voice but the music is
just so foreign to her customary style. Heavy on the bass and nothing country. Oh well, it got her a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album and
I don't hear much folk either. In fact for me this is alternative. Only thing I love is the duet with Dave Matthews and I don't even care for
Dave Matthews. We also get some harmony vocals from the Boss on Tragedy. The album is also a departure for Emmylou in that she wrote most of the
tracks. I have always wondered when they say a song is written by someone, does that mean they wrote both the music and the lyrics? If not, it
should say so. I find the music part hard to believe for some solo artists.

THE CALLING "two" cd, 2004
album chart action: #9 UK, #54 US, #96 AU.
singles chart action:
"our lives"..............................#13UK, #125 US.
"anything"..............................no chart action
"things will go my way"............#34 UK.
California band's second and final album...
the album has an alt-rock sound going on, sort of a cross between U2 and Pearl Jam...
one of the songs off their debut album called "wherever you will go" was named by Billboard magazine as 'the song of the decade 2000-2009'...!
this is a good album, the vocalist has a very good voice for alt rock and its surprising these guys never made it or continued on...
