im slowly getting through my xmas giftcard purchases...
i was inspired to get this one after playing all my vinyl singles last year, i fell in love with the two JJ singles i own all over again...
this one is a double cd containing twenty-three singles, several of them on this disc are singles by Jett's former band The Runaways...
i wasnt aware until listening to this album that "i love rock and roll" was a cover of a single by 1970s UK band Arrows(im going to have to check out the original to see how the two versions compare)...
this isnt a bad compilation set from a fine genuine rock and roll band, and im surprised they never had more than the couple of real hits that they did!

Calexico is a Tucson, Arizona-based Americana / Tex-Mex / indie rock band. The band's two main members, Joey Burns and John Convertino, first played together in Los Angeles as part of the group Giant Sand. They have recorded a number of albums on Quarterstick Records, while their 2005 EP In the Reins recorded with Iron & Wine has reached the Billboard 200 album charts. Their musical style is influenced by traditional Latin sounds of mariachi / conjunto / cumbia / Tejano music and also the Southwestern United States country music as well as '50s-'60s jazz and '90s-'00s post-rock, and they have been described by some as "desert noir" or indie rock. The band is named for the border town of Calexico, California.(from Wikipedia).

I really have never listened to this band until today! I like them!

Just heard the new Mike Oldfield 'Man on the Rocks' album. Not impressed - found it all very predictable. In a word - boring. The first MO album I will not be buying. Have everything else by him but this is just not up to scratch at all. Pity.
