Surprised to learn this Tennessee band caught on in the UK before they did here. They were top 10 from the beginning over there. This is their
third album and they were just starting to get some respect in the states. It still doesn't approach the sales of their subsequent releases of
which I only have Come Around Sundown. Still haven't heard the most recent, last years Mechanical Bull. Looks like it's sales figures are down
from even this one. Anybody here heard it? Back to this one, a couple of standouts and three bombs. Good album but the best was yet to come for me.

no, i havent heard their latest album...i wasnt keen on the two singles i heard so i didnt bother going any further with them this time round

now back to the cd library to continue what i own...
this time its another Violent Femmes set(i own four or five)...
and like the others this is a mixed bag IMO...some good songs, some downright aweful ones also...
this album is the same stock standard affair from these guys...their sound simply didnt grow, they had one sound, think "blisters in the sun", and thats them everytime.
it was a tough call for me for best track between "american music" and their cover of the old Culture Club track "do you really want to hurt me?", ive gone for their cover of Boy George this time for something different...

Nice debut album from this UK band, where it went to #1, and not much noise stateside. Strange when that happens. Even took down a Brit Award for Best Album. They got a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist but lost out to John legend. Billed as the next Coldplay by the British press, which was a very high standard at the time. I got Snow Patrol vibes on my listen. Love those 2 singles that went top 10 there, of which only Somewhere Only We Know touched the chart here. Another strange thing is why it shows no charting in either Australia or Canada. The group has had 4 albums, all of which have gone to #1 in the homeland.
