What Are You Listening To?
I agree J man! John Barleycorn Must Die is an absolute classic!
Jerome Wrote:Traffic - The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys - not my favourite of theirs but not bad either. JBMD is the best Traffic album by far.
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

Yes - The Arc of a Diver is a good album. Hate that 'remixed' version.
'The purpose of life is a life of purpose' - Athena Orchard.

i only own his "roll with it" album from the late 1980s...i dont like it much.

i have the John Barleycorn album, pretty sure it was Jerome(could have been Tiggi also) who reccomended it to my three or so years ago.

i also own a Spencer Davis Group best of set...love that one.

Spencer Davis Group was my mum's favourite group back in the 1960s(along with Manfred Mann)

CHRIS REA "watersign" cd,1983

career stats:

studio albums.....23
singles...............72

this album: #64 UK, #60 AU

singles:
"let it loose".......................#85 UK
"i can hear your heartbeat"..#60 UK, #42 AU
"hey you"...........................no chart action anywhere
"loves strange ways"............no chart action anywhere

Chris' fifth studio album(i own the first five),
sort of went off him after this one, not that the album is bad, just had enough of his style of music, which, lets face it, didnt have much variation to it!
album is typical of his laidback style, nice melodies and guitar work, good little stories in his songs also.
nothing great and nothing bad on here, just a nice steady album or easy listening music.
when i was researching his career stats and chart placements for the post i noticed that Chris had very little chart success in the US...strange really because i'd have thought his style would have suited the california/florida lifestyle(like Buffett's music)...and also for some strange reason he seems to have been more popular here in Australia than his homeland(UK)..

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

LOU REED "the bells" cd, 1979

solo career stats:
studio albums........22
studio singles........44

this album: #130 US

singles:
"disco mystic".....no chart action
"city limits".........no chart action

i own about nine or ten Lou Reed album i guess, and all of them apart from "new york"(which i love) come out with around the same score!
this one is strange, its not out-and-out Reed as we know him, this one has elements of funk/disco and even on one track has Reed putting on an accent, cant quite work out what the accent is,could be sort of Carribean/Cuban maybe?,
apparently, according to allmusic, this album contains Reed's own personal favourite track of his own, its the title track...that track is an instrumental with definate avante-garde overtones, personally i cant see what he obviously does in it, but i'd say it obviously came out exactly how he wanted it to.
best song on here for me is actually the one he appears to put on that weird accent i mentioned further up the page...
and yes, with reed in a "disco" type mood we have the standard disco word "boogie" in one of the album titles.
all up, this album IMO, is his "trans"(neil young) in that it is,for the most part, the most un-lou album i have ever heard!

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
