What Are You Listening To?
evilB Wrote:Great stuff Sogna! Welcome to MD.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

SteveO Wrote:I take it that they are from the Canadian metal kingdom of Quebec!!! Great track....I love it. power, extreme and brutal!!!!
That would be correct, that they're from Quebec.

SteveO Wrote:another Quebec band ....with global recognition!!!!

Ever since I'd heard Gorguts I liked them a bit, but could never really get too into their sound for some reason. This song is good. I like the part at 1:55 quite a bit actually. I think they may be in a similar case as Morbid Angel is for me, where I have to let songs sink in a bit, maybe give each a few listens, and then they actually really start to grow on me to the point of really enjoying them. My issue recently was, for the past while most new music I discovered which had any sort of appeal to me I usually really liked instantly. Whereas some years ago I usually always had to let a band's sound sink in before really appreciating it, so I guess I got out of the habit of letting things really grow on me, and got impatient, which put me off of bands that would need to grow on me like Gorguts to fully appreciate.

Right now I'm listening to my favourite Hungarian band called Sear Bliss. I really like their style in this song. I think I enjoy all the parts of the song, but I really like how they incorporated those brass instruments (I'm not sure exactly which ones they are, probably some horn of some sort, trumpet or something,) as well as the kind of alternative/post-rock kind of guitar intro, the gothic synths, and the bluesy guitar solo later in the song.

Superb!!! I love this!!! Right up my alley ...you sure know your music dude! I think the "brassy" instrument is a mellotron ? This band Sear Bliss is brilliant! It amazes me how much talent there is out there !!!! The growls and grunts of extreme metal turn some people off!(or scare the crap out of them) ..lol...I love it personally...adds to the atmosphere of the music!

I'm unsure if a Mellotron was played on the album, unless it was synthesized through the keyboard. To be honest I'm unsure exactly what a Mellotron is, but here's the list of band members and what instruments they played on the album.

Janos Barbarics - Guitars
Viktor Sheer - Guitars
Zoltan Schonberger - Drums
Gergley Szucs - Trombone, Trumpet, Keyboards
Andras Nagy - Vocals, Bass

I'm pretty sure it was either the trombone or trumpet that I heard in the song. But I'd like to get a second opinion if you feel like it. I'm going to try to explain the part where I hear it. I first heard it at 1:44. It goes in a down thrice, then goes up and down alternating twice, and up once pattern, it repeats that pattern for a while, at one point the volume of it gets louder in the right speaker, then after some repetitions of the pattern, it then does the same pattern at a higher pitch without that last upward movement. I think I may be slightly off though, particularly on the last iteration of the pattern before it goes to a higher pitch version. I don't know music theory or any of that stuff, so I can't say which exact notes they were. It also appears at 4:03. I was saying this because I was wondering if now does that sound like Trumpet or Mellotrone to you if you know the part I'm specifically thinking of?

Also, the only albums I really know well by Opeth are Blackwater Park (which I like a lot,) and Ghost Reveries (which I like a bit.)

That Opeth song you shared is a pretty good ballad. The keyboard solo is pretty cool in particular. I also liked the clean guitar solo near the end quite a bit too. The vocalist's performance was also pretty good like he usually does on the songs I know well by Opeth.

I'm currently listening to Roswell 47 by Hypocrisy. It's really simple sounding, and it was almost a bit of a put off for me when I first heard it. But upon further listens the song really grew on me. It's quite catchy in a good way actually.

I have no logical explanation as to why I have 6 albums by these guys. It's not my genre, but it does show that I tried. This is the bands debut
and I think it was Daddy that captivated me. Vocalist Jonathan Davis deserves an Oscar for that emotional performance. Still get chills when I
listen to it. Then there is the nursery rhyme filled Shoots And Ladders that my granddaughter used to dance and sing to. Her mom got mad at me, said I was corrupting her child. So those are what attracted me to Korn. As for the down side, there are 6 tracks that are painful for me to
listen to. Those are my ears though, not SteveO's. Clear choice for the worst track, first because it was hidden, with a 5 minute gap between
the last listed track and then, not even horrible music, you get a rant from some maniac working on his car and berating his woman for not
knowing what is obvious to him. Just too stupid. The album did not chart that well, but over time has gone platinum. I fear going through these
next 5 cd's. Mostly that this will end up being the highest scoring album from the 6 that I have.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM
