What Are You Listening To?
Jerome Wrote:Life in a Tin Can - The Bee Gees - absolutely magnificent. This one reminds me of my long lost youth.

very overlooked album

You must get this one CH - lovely album. One of the classics.

Next up - Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses - Incidentally my late father's favourite in my collection. And he was a Mario Lanza fan! Go figure. Found him rummaging through his delinquent son's LP collection one day - obviously trying to figure out where it all went wrong with his offspring. He discovered Tull - and the rest, as they say, is history. He played this album whenever he had a chance to get at the stereo, which wasn't very often as I took ownership of the home stereo 24/7.

I always wonder what he would have made of the bonus tracks now included on the latest CD release - 'Living In These Hard Times' & 'Broadford Bazaar' - both brilliant tracks. Mr Anderson never fails to deliver. Even the tracks he discarded are brilliant. A whizz kid.

Normally I would agree with you MH, but this is the exception. Have a listen - I think the lyrics are incredible.

Ha ha ha - Jerome 1 MH 0 - just kidding - I normally can't stand bonus tracks and the like, but for the life of me I cannot figure out why he left these 2 tracks off the album. I think they are better than some of the others he included. Probably some record company bigwig's directive. Ah well, I have them on CD now, so all's well that ends well.

Remarkable prescience on somebody's part--just another pair albeit excellent in the '70's becomes testaments of the times in this new Century. Both are outstanding...and this comes from no fan of Tull's.

i have a couple of Jethro Tull albums on cd that have bonus tracks including the "heavy horses" album...
i cant believe it neither Jerome, and like you said...those two are better than some of the ones on the original album.

and guys,
i agree with the rest of you about "bonus tracks" as a whole...
those stupid "hidden tracks" on albums also irritate me...

i guess with the old albums being re-released there used to be leftover tracks, and they were probably mostly great songs, but with a vinyl album no more than 45 minutes some songs recorded for it had to be omitted due to the time constraint, not because they were crap tracks., and they probably didnt have enough tracks sometimes to release a 'double' album.
or maybe they did, but the record company wouldnt spend the money and take the risk releasing a double album?
