What Are You Listening To?
Music Head Wrote:vinyl back then
not that easy to shoplift

Ahhhh, very true... one could easily slip it under a bulky sweater though and run/coolie walk out.

Tales of Mystery and Imagination - The Alan Parsons Project - super piece of work inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's works. Light years ahead of it's time when it came out. Still sounds good and the re-mastered version is a definite improvement on the original album. Not too often you will hear me say that!

Didn't realize the man had that many albums. That's why I like doing this, you learn stuff. I have a few others of Van's on vinyl but this is
the only cd. One of those artists I need a compilation of. This one is worth having on it's own, with 3 love tracks for me. Looks like it is his
highest selling album going 3x platinum. Not his highest charting though. Only the 1 single released at the time which didn't do that well. For
some reason Moondance was released as a single years later but met an even worse fate. The critics loved the album though, with allmusic giving
it those coveted 5 stars.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Everyone
Best Track - Into The Mystic

Couldn't let this one go by and a huge shout-out to Jerome for bringing back one of my strong faves from back in the day. This was APP's first--I understand criticism that eventually his albums have a certain sameness. Here's this one (in 2 parts) and couple more to demonstrate or deny the sameness thesis:

A minor cavil: Light-years is physical distance (the distance light travels in a year), not really a measure of time itself. Ch!ckenshit of me to mention, I know.

Great review as usual Music man! I like mostly all of Van the Man's music...Astral Weeks album though still puzzles me...such high critical praise...I don't get it, why...????

Maybe I'm missing something that's obvious...took me years to finally LOVE Joni Mitchell's classic album Blue!!! ...go figure!

I'll be posting in Blue-eyed Soul soon--meanwhile there's this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX8nAZftZL4 and if Ray Charles can connect with Celtic soul, surely others can too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyCAZRKXaQk If you want to go "Into the Mystic" (it's not just a river in Connecticut, USA):

Oh I know what a light year is. In fact I have studied up on the subject - one of my more obscure hobbies/passions. It's commonly used (incorrectly) by most English speaking countries to denote something that is ahead of the rest. Not ahead as in years but in distance - being 'ahead of the pack' i.e. some distance in front of them.
