Anyone who knows anything about jazz is familiar with the American jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, The First Lady of Song and the Queen of Jazz ! Her name is synonymous with jazz ! The quintessential jazz vocalist, the artist everyone should listen to as an introduction to jazz ! She entertained millions of fans for sixty years with her distinctive vocals in swing, bebop, and pop. Ella specialised in scat singing, possibly the best in this art http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scat_singing.
During her sixty year career she has produced a lengthy, impressive and staggering discography, releasing well over 100 Albums - studio, live and collaboration !
She won fourteen Grammy awards as well as receiving numerous awards, honours and citations !
The great Ella passed away at the age of 79 in 1996.
