Good choice - it remains their best to date IMO.

ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA "discovery" vinyl/cd, 1979

career stats:
studio albums.......13
singles.................45

this album stats........#1 UK, #1 CAN, #3 AU, #9 US
singles:
"shine a little love".................#6 UK, #1 CAN, #14 AU, #8 US
"the diary of horace wimp"......#8 UK...............#48 AU...........
"dont bring me down".............#3 UK, #6 CAN, #2 AU, #4 US
"confusion"...........................#8 UK..........................#37 US
"last train to london"..............#8 UK..........................#39 US

ELO's eighth studio album.....
lots of psuedo-disco sounds on here and thumping dance beats...but still sounding like an ELO album....
lots of Beatle-esque resemblances also, none moreso than on the Sgt.Peppers sounding "diary of horace wimp" also...
this was actually the first studio album released in the UK to have hit the top10 four times with singles from one album....
only a couple on here i dont love, even the cd bonus track, a cover of Del Shannon's "little town flirt" is pretty darn good IMO...
love the album, love the band and love Lynne's production on other people's material...a true musical genius IMO

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Not calling your judgement into question but C-H and I agree he does a good version of this song, at least live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yq1jjZhqsGY

a strangely affecting music, even to these crude Western ears. Here's a good compilation--something to enjoy and maybe learn from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyADdFRulFc

Really? Y'all still listen to over-the-air radio? How quaint and 20th Century.
