What Are You Listening To?
rebelgirl Wrote:..I like Sam Cooke and this song!!

Totally agree--nobody else is as smooth and urbane (and thus readily acceptable to White audiences). However in front of Black audiences, he unleashes a raw power that just burns--Rod Stewart, among others, learned from him. Here's a listing and some tunes to amply demonstrate: http://www.allmusic.com/album/one-night-...0000189591 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HiTzG5F...kCxxRqx_za << Seriously doubt Dick Clark's audiences felt the same fervor...but then very few of them who had friends or relatives who did time on a Florida chain gang.
A man accustomed to hear only the echo of his own sentiments, soon bars all the common avenues of delight, and has no part in the general gratification of mankind--Dr. Johnson
What he said. Amen, Bro--JazzboCR

THE BEATLES - Rubber Soul...released just before Christmas in 1965! It remains as one of the greatest rock albums in history!

Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) is the highlight of the album! Lennon at his best! Amazed that this folk rock gem is barely two minutes long!

a very good album SteveO...
Norwegian Wood is my favourite track from that album also...

as much as i love Paul's work, i really think Lennon was a more complex writer overall

Yes indeed Crazy mate...McCartney loved writing the three minute pop songs that your parents would whistle to...and John wrote songs with "complex" lyrics and a harder edge however his songs were just as popular as Paul's!
