The beatles and beyond...the solo careers
I believe that perhaps eight years together was sufficient! If they kept releasing new albums eventually some of them would become mediocre! That's what Paul was afraid of!

"Some people think that if The Beatles hadn't broken up over 45 years ago, we'd have had over 45 more Beatles albums that we missed out on. But really, I see it this way: The only way they WOULDN'T have broken up in 1970 would be if they could have been persuaded to merely take a HIATUS to do solo work for a coupla years, with the pledge to re-band for an album again, and then continue to repeat the process indefinitely. So, having begun their first hiatus in '70, they would do solo for a while, and then finally come together again around 1973 for a new Beatles album. It would likely go on to be one of The Beates' masterpieces, a fitting and long-awaited follow-up to 'Abbey Road' that would have permanently etched a place in the 70s for The Beatles. Then they would have disbanded again to do solo. Unfortunately, in 1975, John would go into semi-retirement, forcing The Beatles to wait until they could regroup again. Finally, with John's re-emergence in 1980, he would have get the 'Double Fantasy' album out of his system first with all other signs indicating that a Beatles group album would be next. Tragically, John would be killed in December of 1980, and the other three would agree that there would be no point in trying to be The Beatles after that, cementing their full breakup. So, because The Beatles split in 1970, we didn't miss out on 45 or more albums. We only missed out on one. Enjoy it."
