What Are You Listening To?

I’ve been listening to the strangely unsung David Knopfler – so far I’ve heard Small Mercies, Lifelines, Wishbones and Ship of Dreams, of which the latter two, I’ll definitely be adding to my collection first. Ship of Dreams is stunning, in every way, IMHO – great instrumentation and production. Making comparisons to Mark is inevitable, I suppose, but the more I hear this younger brother, the less that seems to be my inclination - in fact, if comparisons are to be drawn, there's a lot Dylan-like about him. He definitely stands up on his own, has gone his own route, and is a lyricist of note – a very interesting exploration! Chris White appears on most of his albums, Tim Whitehead on sax on this one, and Chris Rea with his slide. Huh! New one from him expected next month – Grace.

Had one album by him called 'Cut The Wire' or something like that. Can't say that it really did anything for me. I think there was one track that stood out for me but the rest was pretty bland material.
