I have not bought any music for several months, after going through a period of buying quite a lot in a short time. I simply have not seen or heard of anything that sufficiently interested me, and I have plenty of music on hand; I feel no pressure to acquire more just for the sake of it.
Having said that, I have this week ordered two new releases, both kind of in the folk vein:
(1) Joan Baez - 75th birthday Celebration
This double was recorded in January this year in NYC and features a stellar line-up of guest musicians: Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, Mavis Staples, Emmylou Harris, Richard Thompson and many others. I'm not a buyer of live albums as a rule but I don't actually have any Joan Baez albums so I decided this was a pretty good buy.
(2) Bob Lind - Magellan Was Wrong
Most people only know Lind for one song - Elusive Butterfly. That is a shame, because there is a great deal more to be discovered. He has not helped his cause by his long break from recording - his thrid studio album, from 1971, was to be his last until 2012, when he released Finding You Again. This new album, released late this month, could be said to be the follow-up. I love the cover!
