Oceansoul Wrote:New albums I've listened to:
Oathbreaker - Rheia (Metal) 2016
Named after the Goddess, Rhea, who was the mother of the Olympians in Greek Mythology. My initial reaction to this album the other day wasn't good, lol. But last night, I gave it another listen and...it's better. It's frantic and aggressive with some soft moments and breathing room. The female vocalist here kicked my butt a bit, interesting voice. Also the track Needles In Your Skin slays and Immortals is cool too.
Inter Arma - Paradise Gallows (Sludge Metal) 2016
Like a sea monster slowly rising from the ocean into an attack, that's how I would describe the music. Starts slow before turning into an aggressive crescendo on yours ears. Interesting, I'm not done with this album nor the band yet though. I feel like this sound could get old fast though, hope not.
Elder - Lore (Heavy Metal/Doom/Psych) 2015
There is some ear candy right here, groovy. My main complaint is about how long the songs are, like 15 minutes for one really? Aside from that, it's alright with me.
I've been in a Metal mood lately
speaking of "long songs", try Neil Young's "psychedelic pill" album,
a double disc studio album, nine track all up, including Driftin' Back which lasts for almost 28 minutes (now that takes stamina to listen to even for an avid fan like me!,
had the track maybe only been 8 minutes or even 10, I could have liked it.
as a footnote theres also two others on the album that exceed 16 minutes in length...lots of lengthy guitar solos on them, too over the top for me.
the theres his latest live album "earth", Love and Only Love was 10 minutes long on the 1990s studio album "ragged glory", but on this live album its over 28 minutes long,
hello Neil!, talk about boring and monotonous.
he gets more strange and weird as he gets older IMO, but I still buy all his releases!
