The Clash (and The Jam) were never accepted by the UK punk community back in '77 because they weren't considered punks...
Clash were big fans of rockabilly, r+r, reggae, dnace etc
Jam used to wear suits with a clean cut look, and like Clash, loved the music they grew up with also...
whereas the majority of the UK bands dissed just about everything publicly that came before them(it was their image), dressed dirty/unkempt
and were anarchists...
tis funny how things change, John Lydon is a close friend of Neil Young and Bob Dylan and now lives in a nice house in LA, appears on those 'celebrity'
reality shows in the UK, advertises things like brands of butter on tv etc....
im not criticising him for doing those things, just saying how your perspective of things change as you get older, become more mature etc as opposed
to how he was in 1977 with Sex Pistols.
