THE KINKS "the village green preservation society" cd, 1968
the band's sixth studio album, and a little fact I find hard to believe,
their last charting album in their homeland according to Wiki...
album charted a lowly #47 in the UK, but failed to chart anywhere else...
over the decades it has become their biggest seller though...
a concept album with Davies looking back on his childhood over fifteen tracks...
album was intended to be a double album but their record label refused to allow
it, thus five tracks ended up being left off it...
those tracks: Autumn almanac, Susannah's Still Alive, Days. Wonderboy, Mr Pleasant...
Damn, can you imagine how good this one would have been with those songs included!!!!…
anyway,
the album was released the same week as "the white album", which was always going to overshadow
everything released at the same time...
Townshend calls the album "Davies' masterpiece", I would have agreed if those other tracks were on it...
still, a great album in its own right...
