This is a collection of songs written by French folk rock/rock opera composer Alan Simon and performed by Fairport Convention (and himself) as well as other guests including Martin Barre, Jacqui McShee, Didier Lockwood, Andreas Vollenweider and John Helliwell.
Having said before that I’m not a big fan of the rock opera, I’m finding myself quite enjoying this album – not the first time I’ll be eating my words! Or perhaps it's because it's excerpts from various of them. May need to seek out the actual works and take a listen. Simon first found fame with his Excalibur and Fairport Convention are a great fit for his subject matter, generally – legendary tales of myth and yore sort of thing. Mr Simon’s particular brand of music is referred to as Breton Celticism.
