Neil Young 2000 onwards

[CRAZY-HORSE]

NEIL YOUNG  "peace trail" 2016.  #76 US, #57 UK, #52 AU, #72 CAN.

pretty well a back to basics album musically.
guitar, drums, bass is it.
Neil on his soapbox again...
this time the injustices against American Indians by white man is the theme of most of the tracks.
one track called "indian giver", would be considered racist if aimed at Indians but not when Neil aims it at "white man", pretty hypocrital
concept IMO as it should work both ways but the "left" is fine using it apparently!
"terrorist suicide hang-gliders", a stupid title IMO, lyrics are cringeworthy IMO, a rant at those who dont like Muslims.
another track about the environment (John Oaks) which is a spoken word track over music ala Greendale style.
final track is about as avant-garde as Neil has got, "my new robot", as the title suggests its pretty bad, vocorder usage, wouldnt be out of place on Trans, i'd consider that one comical if Neil wasnt so serious in his singing.
back to the album overall,
its a move back int he right direction musically, i mean who doesnt love folky Neil.
nice melodies on most tracks.
most tracks seem underdone to me, some good ideas but not developed or finished properly.
like most Neil Young albums since 2000 a couple of genuinely very good tracks on here, the others are either passable or below par.
