Gordon Giltrap's Fear of the Dark - I forget how good his so-called trilogy is - Visionary, Perilous Journey and the aforementioned. It really is a mystery that he is not paid more attention. He also had (and still does have) the ability to commandeer the services of excellent additional musicians.
It's all good, but the title track strikes me as a tour de force today ... brilliant strings and great arrangement (Roger Hand), spot on bass (John G Perry), super creative drumming which steps up a notch in the second half of the track (Simon Phillips - never overbearing, always sympathetic), and of course, the ridiculously proficient guitarwork of the maestro himself ...
On to Perilous Journey now ... love all three of these works
