To me, it's all for fun, to play couch critic. In reality, music is an apples and oranges thing.
Speaking of apples and oranges, Britney is more of a product than an artist or musician anyway. I have yet to see her sing a single note unplugged or see her play an instrument. Has she written any songs?
No big deal. If the music is good, I don't care if the face on the video is just a face. Even the Beatles had a lot of help from managers and producers. And during their early years and before, musicians tended to do covers of old standards rather than write their own songs and break new ground.
So I think you make a good point about the reality of comparisons, but I don't think these polls are meant to be taken as scientific.
