as disheartened as I am to say it... rock is dead, or what we recall of rock. what you are referring to, as in being able to replicate the attempt at the revival of rock through nirvana in particular was truly the brilliance on Kurt Cobain and his very deep influences. I mean his last recorded performance was a 50s Leadbeddy cover.
I however, do understand where you are coming from; but i'm sorry to say that this would be hard to produce. "Proper rock-charged emotional music"; what is that? I mean any true rock band is emotional but now it is hard to produce something good that people will appreciate without it being labelled pop or "another imitator!".
in my opinion, to create such a sound you would need to go back and see what Cobain did as a writer and he took the 70s punk influence; by being there to make a point. To play punk you didnt need no skill, or no money, but you needed a point and a reason for being on stage. So I guess the question is - what is your reason for doing this? what points are you trying to put across? Surely if you are trying to recreate an old sound, you will be called a ripoff; but to start, I would look back at the lyrics and points that punk, post-punk, new wave and grunge tried to put across in that 20 year period - starting from The Sex Pistols, onto The Cure (Robert Smith is one of the best lyricists of all time), Talking Heads, Joy Division and obviously towards Nirvana.
