Omar Akram being one such - he's an Afghan/American composer, producer and inspirational writer born in NYC, who as the son of a UN diplomat, travelled extensively all over the world growing up and afforded the opportunity to experience many different cultures which purportedly influence his musical output. I tried, but couldn't get through a whole album of tinkly piano - it's just too saccharine for me and I end up feeling depressed by something that has the completely opposite intended purpose - strangely. I prefer music with a little bit more grit and verve, and in my view he is quite possibly the Kenny G of the keys. Not my thing at all, although it has to be said, there is a very fine line between what sits well and what doesn't and I don't really have a solid idea as to why - it's something instinctive - visceral. He did win a Grammy, for Best New Age Album, for his Echoes of Love, so probably best not to take my word for it! From the latest album, the this year's Moments of Beauty ...
