SMALL FACES "ogdens' nut gone flake" cd/vinyl 1968
their third and final UK release prior to disbanding,
fourth if you count the debut US album which was a mish mash of the first two UK releases...
they did reform in the mid 1970s for two further albums which were pretty decent affairs...
my favourite album of all time by my favourite group of all time and my favourite male vocalist of all time...
first side opens with a psychedelic instrumental then we get some heavy rock, some blues similar to what vocalist Steve Marriott would do with his next project Humble Pie, a music hall type tune and their hit single "lazy sunday"....
side two of the vinyl tells a story of Happiness Stan who tries to find the missing half of the moon, the story is told by UK funnyman Stanley Unwin (who specialised in gobbledegook) between the tracks...
this side contains blues, blues rock, psychedelia, folk and rock tunes...
album was criticised upon release for its advertisments in UK papers which rewrote The Lords' Prayer using refernces to the band and the album title, the band thought it was amusing but the righteous and Holy people did not see the funny side of it.
anyway i own the standard cd, the cd in a tobacco tin, the 50th anniversary multi cd box set and the vinyl of this album...
a copy of the Lords' Prayer rewrite:
Small Faces
Which were in the studios
Hallowed by thy name
Thy music come
Thy songs be sung
On this album as they came from your heads
We give you this day our daily bread
Give us thy album in a round cover as we give thee 37/9d
Lead us into the record stores
And deliver us Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake
For nice is the music
The sleeve and the story
For ever and ever, Immediate.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
something from the album that is often forgotten
