When I was 16 I was straining at the leash to uncover all manner of music. That led me down plenty of blind alleys, but set the pattern that I still stick to.
I think you're right Euan, that people at that age have a tendency to follow the herd, and at the moment that seems to be listening to Hip Hop, "R&B", Metal, or whatever, but there will always be those that buck the trend. You're a case in point, and I think you've made a good choice.
I disagree strongly with Jerome that there's little good new music being made, though. It's all out there, it's just a case of tracking it down. There's a taste for junk music presently, but I don't think that's anything new. There's always been plenty of support for crap music.
BTW I've just ordered a Rihanna CD...
