1999 release where Macca goes back to his roots and covers some fave songs from his teenage years (plus introduces a couple of originals). I liked Lennon's Rock & Roll album, so thought I'd give this one a go.
The studio rules were apparently that the band had only 15 or 20 minutes to rehearse the songs, and that a minimum number of takes were used. Thus the material sounds raw, and does indeed have some commendable spontaneity about it.
Not a knock-out, but given that this made about a year after Linda's death, it has a sense of fun & enjoyment.
The guitarist's rubbish, though...
AllMusic 4/5 stars.
