i hope i understood your question correcty G-Man, if not please correct me.
i think that we all understand to a point who has had signifigant influence and achieved a lot in music regardless of the genre, but out of that we all find artists that we relate to either lyrically or musically, and its them we tend to research a bit more, if we find what we're looking for in
our research, we tend to allign ourselves in that direction.
eg: i can feel what Eminem says in his songs about his life because ive had similar experiences at times. yet, i say i dislike "rap" as a rule because it doesnt say what i need it to to gel with me and how i have felt.
