SteveO I'm not so sure that your comments on the music legends are correct............
I'll give an example or two
Whilst I lived in the UK I believe that in the competition between The Stones and The Beatles there was not much in it in the 60s. Maybe he Beatles had the upper hand.................Move across to Europe and the situation if different.............The Stones are clear favorites and the Beatles are second...............Even the question of THe Beatles contributions to inovation and recording technology motivation is noit so clae cut.
The second example is to do with "Brit Pop" basically Oasis and Blur plus the associated groups......In the UK the perception of where this came from was pretty clear cut and most fans here in Europe could point to the Godfathers of such a sound. However it was news to N America that there were origins of this sound other than the ones that they thought ..............This has lead to The Kinks getting the recognition that they deserved for their work in the 60s and 70s that were eclipsed by a ather unforunate N. American ban due to their behavioral problems........................So I don't think it is as clear cut as you imagine .................there ae plenty of unsung heroes who have made great contributions to Rock and beyond but due to the cultural and geographic pertibations that happen not all the contributos are recognized some are masked by the position in the globe from which you view the situation
