The delay / echo effect was used a lot in the dub style of reggae. Lee "Scratch" Perry is well known as a producer who used it and the rhythm section of Sly & Robbie were also famous for it. Implied delay/echo was prominent in reggae with the drummer & bassist playing in triplet patterns (often over the barline) to mimic the delay sound that dj's and producers were getting in their studios.

At 1:00 the vocals are "Dubbed" = delayed at 2:30 instruments get "dubbed too"
