Incidentally very much 'happening' music since it could not be recorded at the time. Or does it mean only music you have heard/experienced in your life time. If that's the case you are closing yourself off to a hell of a lot of material.
No one said it were off-limits or that I were closing myself off to anything.
If I go to a chamber or orchestra concert to hear that sort of music, those musicians are interpreting that written recipe for me live in real time, and I am at the moment of creation.
If I listen to a dance music programme on the radio I'm as close the DJ's point of creation as I can get. It may have been pre-recorded but everyone is hearing it live in real time with me.
But something like say, Jimi Hendrix -- I'm very aware that I'm experiencing an aural equivalent of a photograph. I will never be able to experience that music's moment of creation as it went down. I find that familiarity lessens a piece of music's impact greatly.
