LOU REED "growing up in public" cd,1980.
universally criticised in the music press at the time and also one of his worst selling albums....but i like this one(go figure?).
he was sort of at a crossroads here...several bad albums prior to this one..so he changed his style and looking back it was the start of 'delivery' of what he became in the 1980s and IMO he peaked with that sound on "new york" a few years later..
a highly personalised one in that he is looking at his private life in the lyrics.
the music is uptempo,yet simplistic in its delivery.
lyrically though, it is up there with his best works IMO...especially "how do you speak to an angel?"(absolutely classic Reed)
the almighty pro's at allmusic only rate this one a lowly converted 1.5.
